Nova's point of view The way my heart was hammering , I knew I was close to collapsing. Lisa still had me trapped, and every breath scraped through my chest. I forced out a laugh, though it came out shaky. “You're a fool.”Before I could say anything else, my phone began ringing. The sharp sound cut through the room and Lisa's head snapped toward it. I knew that was the only chance the universe would give me, so I shoved against her with everything I had and stumbled away, putting the desk between us. My fingers flew to my hair, and I pulled out the pin holding it together, gripping it tightly. “Don't come any closer.”Lisa stared at the pin, then laughed. “You think I'm afraid of you?” She took another step. “I came prepared, Nova. Today, only one of us is leaving this room alive.”My stomach twisted, I backed away,.my eyes scanning the room for an escape.,. but none of them made sense. My hands instinctively covered my stomach. My baby, five years of hoping, waiting and wishing. I

Nova's point of view He froze, his phone was still against his ear.“Didn't I tell you to sit down? Why are you standing?”He blinked..“I only stood up to…”I marched over, snatched the phone from his hand, ended the call, and slipped it into my pocket. “No more work.”He stared at me, then, slowly, a smile spread across his face. “You're worried about me.”“I am annoyed with you.”“Same thing.”“It is absolutely not the same thing.” He laughed softly. I knelt beside him again and opened the medicine. “Give me your leg.”He obeyed this time,.qs I carefully applied the balm, he relaxed against the chair. “Does that hurt?”“A little.”I immediately slowed down..“Sorry.” He smiled, then he whispered, “Thank you.”I looked down quickly, pretending to concentrate on the bandage. “You're welcome.”Ten minutes later, Reed’s head was on my shoulder, his fingers wrapped in mine, pretending to sleep. I sighed…. totally taken advantage of the situation. Till, I let him be for a moment then rem

Reed's point of view The way Damon froze mid- stairs was almost comical, color drained from his face, his eyes moving slowly from the cigarette between my fingers to my face, then to the smoke curling lazily from my lips.I smiled. Good, he remembered….his brain still functioned properly…reminding him that I don't smoke for pleasure, I don't light cigarettes because I enjoyed them. I smoked when my anger had reached a place where I needed something to keep my hands steady while I decided what to do next. His throat moved as he swallowed. “What are you doing here?”I gave a quiet laugh. “Have you forgotten who bought this apartment for you?”He said nothing, then took one careful step backward. I tapped the ash from my cigarette, crossed one leg over the other, and studied him. “What have you been doing these past few days?”Damon's expression tightened. “What kind of question is that? I'm not your child.”I laughed again. “True…you're a grown man now. Apparently grown enough to make d

Nova's point of view The child is safe…those words hit me so hard that for a second, I forgot how to breathe. My eyes burned, and a tear slipped down before I could stop it.My baby was safe…that was all I had wanted to hear. Just hours earlier, I had rushed into the small clinic near my house with my heart hammering against my ribs. I hadn't cared that it wasn't some expensive hospital or that there wasn't a VIP entrance. I didn't need luxury…I needed a doctor. I pushed through the entrance, barely catching my breath."Please, I need to see a doctor, it's an emergency."The nurse behind the desk looked apologetic.."I'm sorry, al the doctors are currently busy."My stomach dropped. "No…please, you don't understand. I need to see a doctor now.""We're short-staffed tonight, there's an important patient in the operating room, and almost everyone is attending to that case."My hand instinctively went to my stomach."But my baby..." My voice cracked, the nurse shook her head helplessly.

Nova's point of view “Follow him to the hospital.” Ken's voice was calm, but his eyes weren't. “I'll go back inside, I need to find the manager and figure out exactly what happened. I'll find out who handled that drink and who was responsible for that table. Whatever I discover, I'll let you know.”I nodded, barely hearing him, then he caught my arm before I could move.“And Nova…”.I looked at him. “Don't stress yourself…please. Remember your baby.”My hand immediately went to my stomach.“My baby.”Ken gave me a firm nod. “Go.”I swallowed..“Thank you, doctor Ken.”I hurried to my car, my hands felt cold against the steering wheel, and my heart wouldn't slow down. The moment I arrived, I jumped out and rushed toward the entrance. “Where is he?”I rushed forward without waiting for a reply and almost collided with the doctor that attended to me the day Reed brought me here. “Ma’am …you need to stay here… .”“But…”“He is in the emergency room now, and you can't go in. He’ll be fine….
