The lantern went out. Darkness swallowed the tunnel in an instant. Sera's hand flew to the hilt of her dagger as her heartbeat thundered in her ears. For a split second, she could see nothing. The only sound was the slow, deliberate echo of footsteps rolling through the abandoned railway tunnel. One pair. Then another. Then another. Not hurried. Not hesitant. Measured.mDisciplined. They moved with the confidence of people who already knew where they were going.Nathan's face, barely visible in the dim glow of Sera's flashlight, had lost every trace of composure. The quiet, reflective man she'd met moments earlier looked decades older."They're early," he whispered.Sera frowned. "Who?"Nathan didn't answer. Instead, he reached over and gently pushed the beam of her flashlight toward the ground."Keep the light low.""You're avoiding the question.""I'm trying to keep us alive."The footsteps grew louder. Metal scraped against concrete somewhere ahead.A voice echoed faintly through th

Sera wakes up to the strange feeling that she isn't alone. The room is silent except for the faint hum of Zelios' ventilation system. Before opening her eyes, she could sense someone's presence. The smell in the room changes, and so does the temperature. When she does, she finds Husen crouched over her bed. His boots are planted on either side of her hips on the mattress, balanced effortlessly. One elbow rests casually on his knee while he studies the folded map he somehow found. The morning light from the window outlines his silhouette, making him appear almost carved from shadow. He looks up only after realizing she's awake. "Good. I was beginning to think hunters slept through invasions."Her eyes widened at his presence. Seeing her in complete silence, he bent closer to her face. Realisation years of training quickly took over; she grabbed his wrist, planted the food against his chest, and threw him clean over her with her momentum.Husen lands gracefully several feet away. The corridors of Zelios were already alive despite the early hour. Scientists hurried between laboratories carrying stacks of files. Engineers pushed carts loaded with spare equipment. Medics exchanged reports while technicians argued over malfunctioning generators. The fortress buzzed with its usual rhythm, a rhythm Sera had somehow never truly noticed before. She slowed her pace. Normally she walked these halls without paying attention. Her mind was always outside the walls, fixed on ruined streets, patrol routes, and the next hunt.Inside Zelios, she simply passed through. Today was different. She decided to listen to every word. There were many things, she ignored before which she can't anymore now.For the first time, she listened."...old archives are still sealed...""...those records disappeared years ago...""...the western laboratory was closed before my time..."The conversations were fragmented, fading as people walked past. Nothing directly answered her questions.Yet ever

She sat there quietly, letting the frustration settle instead of consume her. They could lock her inside reinforced glass. They could monitor every heartbeat and every drop of blood. But they couldn't stop her from thinking. Somewhere beyond these walls, Nathan was still hiding, Husen was searching for Station Zero, and the truth about Project Crimson Hunger was waiting to be uncovered.Behind her calm expression, however, her mind had already begun studying every corner of the room, the cameras hidden in the ceiling, the ventilation grilles, the electronically sealed door, the thickness of the reinforced glass. Every prison had a weakness. She simply had to find Zelios. An hour crawled by. For Sera, time had never moved so slowly. She sat on the edge of the neatly made bed, elbows resting on her knees, listening to the steady rhythm of the ventilation system overhead. Every few seconds the fan clicked before beginning another rotation. She counted them without realizing it.Thirty-tw

Sera remained seated on the edge of the bed, her gaze fixed on the transparent wall separating her from the Medical Wing. Around her, doctors moved quietly between monitors and analysis stations, preparing another series of tests on the blood sample they had just collected. She barely noticed them. Her thoughts kept drifting back to the blackout. To the cold hand that had wrapped around her wrist. To Husen. The memory felt strangely vivid. She could still remember the unnatural chill of his touch and the calm certainty in his voice. They locked you behind reinforced glass.bWhat would you call it?She tried to push the words aside, but they returned again and again, louder each time. Why had they unsettled her so deeply? Why had she been calmer speaking to the vampire than she had been with the people she had trusted all her life? The questions circled endlessly without answers. Time moved painfully slowly.Somewhere beyond the glass, a machine emitted a soft chime. A keyboard clicked.
