Part 1: The Dungeon**Year 801, Day 24. Midnight. Obsidian Dungeon. The War Duke sat in chains. Bone and iron. King-made. Across from him: 3 guards. Young. Tired. One of them, a kid, 18, shifted on his feet. The War Duke smiled. “What’s your name, pup?” “...Kael, sir.” “Do you want to be here?” Kael didn’t answer.“Did the King ask you to guard me?” The War Duke leaned forward. Chains rattled. “He... told us to.” “Told,” the War Duke said the word like poison. “Not asked.”Hour 2. The War Duke hadn’t moved. Hadn’t fought. He just talked. “Do you know why we have walls? Because someone commanded them built. Do you know why we have food? Because someone commanded the fields planted. Asking doesn’t build Kingdoms. Command does.”By hour 4, two guards were listening. By hour 6, Kael unlocked the first chain. “Don’t,” the third guard said. The War Duke looked at him. “Then stop me. Command me.”The guard raised his spear. Hesitated. The War Duke moved. Fast. Broke his neck.
