The deeper they went, the more difficult the forest became to move through, with thick roots rising from the ground, branches hanging low over their heads, and trees standing so close together that they sometimes had to push their way between them. Ronan barely noticed any of it. His mind was focused entirely on Eliara and the rogue who had taken her. He kept expecting to hear something ahead of them, the sound of a struggle or Eliara calling for help, but the forest remained strangely quiet.They had already found several signs that someone had passed through that area. The vampire was breathing heavily, its chest rising and falling as it watched her carefully, almost as though it was trying to decide whether to attack or wait for her to make the first move. She moved toward it at the same time, meeting it halfway, and the two collided with enough force to send them both stumbling.
