TRISTAN"Oh, please," my sister scoffed, turning her head to stare out the passenger window. "You've had a crush on Hunter since the first time you played against him, and bullying the guy you want is such an old high school trope."The truck veered slightly as my hands jerked on the leather wheel. Heart jackhammering against my ribs, I fought to correct the course, the tires shrieking loudly against the asphalt."Shut your mouth, Evie." The words ripped out of my chest as I snapped my gaze away from the road to her. "You don't know what the fuck you're talking about.""Oh, but I do," she shot back, her dark brown eyes firing straight daggers as she faced me head-on. She wasn't the least bit afraid of my anger, clearly aware that the real monster lived back at the house, and not in this driver's seat. "Know what you talked about for two weeks straight the first time you played against the Ice Reapers? Hunter Beaumont. You claimed to hate his smugness and attitude, but your eyes, they

HUNTER Working at that grease-trap Pizzeria was supposed to guarantee one thing: absolute anonymity. Nobody from my old life, and definitely not from my new life, was ever supposed to find out. But my life had morphed into one trashy daytime soap opera. Because tell me why Adrianna had to find out, and not only that, she'd practically paraded in there just to humiliate me. When she hadn't replied to my texts over the past couple of weeks since the big tragedy happened, I'd gotten the memo and accepted that she wanted nothing to do with me anymore. It hurt me and my ego, but I'd already grieved the end of my relationship with Adrianna. So her coming to announce her new relationship with my ex-bestfriend--Jonson Blackwood, that sleazeball- was just a petty move. To put the cherry on top of the shittiest sundae in existence, Tristan Reeves had also shown up and left me fucking cuffed next to a dumpster. If my shady coworker hadn't come out for a smoke break and helped me

TRISTAN I couldn’t stop staring at Hunter Beaumont. Why the fuck couldn't I stop staring at him? This was the fourth time I'd caught myself watching him and the third time he'd turned and nearly caught me dead in the act. Each time I'd managed to jerk my attention away at the last second pretending I was fascinated by whatever the hell Randall was telling us over lunch.Even now that we were at the rink preparing for today's practice, I still caught myself stealing glances at him.It was getting fucking ridiculous. Hadn't last night taught my body enough of a lesson? My back still burned beneath my shirt from the punishment i'd given myself, and yet, here I was, doing the exactly thing I'd spent the entire night warning myself not to ever repeat again. .My eyes kept finding Beaumont, following his every move like the stalker he'd accused me of being yesterday.God, this was all Evie's fault. Her words from yesterday had dug up things id spent years burying so deeply id convinced m

TRISTANI shouldn't have allowed Evie to blackmail me into bringing her here.Or better yet, I shouldn't have opened my fucking mouth about it in the first place. But the second I’d met her after school, she’d interrogated me like a federal agent, demanding every single piece of information I had on Hunter Beaumont. Why she was so obsessed with the guy, I had no damn idea, but she’d cornered me until I finally snapped and mentioned where he worked just to shut her up. Naturally, that led to her dragging me straight here.Whatever. We were here now. Once she choked down the cheap pizza she claimed she couldn't live without, I was driving us straight back home.I hated bringing Evie to this side of town. My reputation here was something I was ashamed of and I didn't need anyone seeing her with me or my fucked-up world touching her. But I figured one quick stop wouldn't hurt.Beside her insistence, Lucian drank again tonight. Being around him when he wasn't drunk was already like s

HUNTER“You’ll see me when I’m home, Mom.” I snapped, slamming the front door shut behind me.Dusk had already settled over DevinPort, painting the sky in soft swirls of pink and blue that would've been beautiful if I hadn't been too pissed off to appreciate them.Gritting my teeth, I shoved my fists into my pockets and stormed down the driveway, the frustration rolling through me with every angry step.Nothing would've felt better than climbing into my car right now and speeding the hell away from this place.Except, that privilege had also been repossessed along with the rest of my life.So there I was, marching down the street on foot like Charlie fucking Brown after another one of life's many disappointments. And what exactly had I done to deserve this?Being the son of an allegedly criminal millionaire wasn't enough. Now I couldn't even get a straight answer from my own family.Ever since Dad had been arrested, I hadn't seen him and it wasn't from lack of trying on my end.God, h
