I marched away from him. “Are you going to fire me too?” Theo thundered behind me. He had everyone’s attention now. I was certain he’d done it on purpose. “You’re so power-hungry, and the only thing you know how to do is go on a firing spree!” he roared. “This is exactly why women should never be allowed to hold power. Look at her!” I refused to respond. I continued toward the elevator, every eye in the lobby following me. People moved out of my way as though one wrong move from them would somehow prove everything Theo was saying. I stopped in front of the elevator and glanced toward the reception desk. Someone was sitting there. Not Beatrice. A brunette with beautiful caramel-colored skin. The moment she noticed me looking at her, she straightened and immediately bowed her head. They must have already told her what happened. I stepped toward the desk. Her gaze remained lowered. I noticed the slight tremble in her shoulders. I snorted. “Up.” She raised her hea

CASSIUS POV“The meeting with Alpha Joe of the Blood Moon Pack is in fifteen minutes,” James announced.I merely nodded, barely listening. My attention remained on the picture displayed on the phone in my hand.Trinity.A picture I’d taken without her knowledge that morning. It wasn’t something I normally did. But she’d looked too good in the white suit she’d worn. The morning sunlight had caught her fiery red hair, making it glow like flames and “Trinity Justice?”I looked up.James was leaning over my desk, peering at my phone.I immediately turned it facedown and placed it on the desk before narrowing my eyes at him.He flashed me a bright smile and took a step back.“I was curious,” he said.“Curiosity killed the cat.” I kept my voice flat.“If I die, who else will be able to put up with you?” he asked.“What is that supposed to mean?” I leaned back in my chair.James’s smile widened. “Nothing.”“That doesn’t sound like nothing.” I frowned at him. “You’re trying to say I’m overbe

TRINITY POV“What is wrong with the server?” I asked the front desk. “I haven’t been able to do anything for the past thirty minutes.”Grace rose from her chair and checked her computer, even though the screen was blank. She clicked a few things, as though somehow she would find an answer there.“Call IT,” I said. She immediately picked up the phone. As soon as she ended the call, she looked at me, her expression grim.“The system has been down for an hour. IT hasn’t been able to restore it,” Grace said.I scoffed. An hour? How had I not noticed sooner?Because of Cassius. My mind jeered. I shoved back the thoughts, looking around the lobby.Several employees were standing around with their phones and laptops raised, as though walking around with them would somehow make a miraculous network connection appear. Two of them froze the moment they noticed me.Then the others followed. One after another, they lowered their devices and bowed. I gave them a brief nod before turning as the ele

TRINITY POV “Hi. Can I get one scoop of chocolate and one vanilla, please?” The ice cream server leaned forward, staring at me through the wide-rimmed glasses he wore. “Cone or cup?” Sam tugged at my hand. I looked down at him. “Okay, buddy,” I said. “Your choice?” “Cone, Mama,” he said, excitement lacing his voice. “Two cones,” I told the server. He flashed me a warm smile. “Any toppings?” “Sprinkles!” Sam yelled. I laughed. “Sprinkles on his, please. Nothing on mine.” “Here you go.” He handed me the two cones. I let go of Sam’s hand and took them. I handed Sam his before pulling out my card to pay. The server shook his head. “It’s on the house… I mean, the kiosk,” he corrected himself. I looked around, hoping to find some sign mentioning a discount, but I didn’t see one. I hadn’t had free ice cream in a long time. The last time had been three years ago, and the bastard had only given it to me for free because he thought he could use it as an excuse to hit on me. “Don

CASSIUS POV A sharp pain pierced my side, knocking the breath out of me. I gasped, yanking on my tie to loosen it before staring at James, who looked at me with concern. “Are you certain we don’t have to go to the hospital?” he asked. “Do I look sick?” I grunted. “No, but…” I ignored him, pulling off my tie and wrapping it around my palm. James stared at me for a moment before returning to what he had been saying. The deal with Alpha Joe of the Blood Moon Pack had gone through. I would be getting the resources I requested in exchange for manpower from the Evercrest Pack. Now, I was returning to the pack with James, of course, and Scarlett, who had returned to my office after wandering around the city. I sat slouched in my seat, staring out the window and waiting for the pain that had started in the office to pass. James was talking, but I could barely make sense of the words coming out of his mouth. The annoying tablet he kept pushing in my face wasn’t helping either. I shift
