The guys shrugged, but nobody said a word. What were they supposed to tell her? That they'd called her to calm Huxton down because he was losing it over another girl?Luckily, Jayla didn't question it.Seeing Huxton that wasted, she just looked worried. She walked over and gently shook him."Huxton? Hey, Huxton. You okay?"A woman's voice drifted through the haze.Huxton cracked his eyes open, but her face was a blur.Still, something about her felt familiar. So when she leaned closer, he didn't fight it. He let her help him up."He's way too drunk. I'll take him home."Tyler and the others immediately nodded, happy to let her handle it.They watched them leave. Then Ryan finally spoke."What the hell is going on with Huxton?"Tyler sighed and shook his head."Who knows?"If Huxton loved Jayla and only felt guilty because Margo had spent three years taking care of him, shouldn't he be happy Margo was gone? But if he loved Margo, why'd he keep calling her his sister?

A faint smile curved Margo's lips. Huxton's chest tightened. After a long beat, he stepped in front of her.He towered over her, his shadow swallowing her whole. His hand lifted like he wanted to touch her, then dropped."Margo, I'm sorry."Three years too late.Still, better late than never. Better than never seeing her again.Margo blinked."What?"Then the past hit her, and she went quiet.'Seriously, which part was he even apologizing for?'Huxton rushed to explain. "I didn't know my mom would make you leave. I never wanted you to go—"Margo shook her head, cutting him off. "She didn't make me leave. I was already planning to go. She just happened to ask when I was already planning to leave."His heart sank. For three years, he'd gone over every possible reason she'd left, especially after finding out Yvonne had been involved. He'd clung to one hope: Margo hadn't wanted to leave. She'd been forced. He'd imagined seeing her again, too. Would she be happy? Still mad?

Margo really didn't resent them.Without the Dunnes, she wouldn't be where she was today. Her parents might've pulled her out of school before she even finished middle school and sent her off to some much older stranger just because he'd offered them enough money. The Dunnes had saved her life.Everything she'd done for them was simply paying back that debt.Sure, she'd fallen for Huxton. When Yvonne first talked about making Margo her daughter-in-law, she'd been thrilled. And when Huxton later said he only saw her as a sister, it had crushed her.But that was all in the past.Huxton had drawn the line between them a long time ago."I only see them as people I owe."As Margo and Chad walked away, neither noticed Huxton behind them, hearing every word.He froze.'Just someone she owes.'His mind flashed back to the party his friends had thrown three years ago to celebrate his recovery. They'd been talking about everything Margo had done for him:"Now that Huxton's back on h

Meanwhile, Margo had no clue any of this was happening.Having the wedding in Carmoria had actually been the idea of Chad's dad, Michael. Michael had settled abroad, but Chad's grandparents still lived in Carmoria. Chad hadn't seen them in forever, and most of Margo and Chad's friends were there too.So Carmoria it was.Wedding planning was a total nightmare. With the big day coming up fast, Margo and Chad were constantly running around town, juggling a million things.Margo barely had time to breathe, let alone think about Huxton. She'd pretty much forgotten about him.Huxton, though? He definitely hadn't forgotten her.He even showed up looking for her. When Huxton cornered her outside the restroom again, Margo was already over it.The one time she went out without Chad, Huxton jumped at the chance.Apparently, while she was in Auremont, going anywhere alone was a bad idea."What do you want?" she finally asked.Huxton said nothing. He just stared at her like she was s

Margo seriously didn't get it.'Why is he doing this? He can't keep me here forever. I'm gonna leave eventually, so what's the point of any of this?' she wondered.Huxton didn't care how long it took.He was terrified she'd disappear from his life again. So this time, he wasn't wasting a single chance to be with her.By the third sunset Margo had counted, Huxton finally came back. With dozens of potted moth orchids. Two days earlier, Huxton had asked if she wanted anything the next time he went out. She'd asked for orchids.Auremont wasn't exactly orchid-friendly, but with the right care, they could still thrive. And since Margo had nothing but time, taking care of them gave her something to do.She transplanted each one into the greenhouse herself, carefully tending to them.Seeing how much she liked them, Huxton finally relaxed."Thanks."When she finished, Margo turned and smiled at Huxton, who'd been waiting by the greenhouse door.He waved it off, barely hiding his g
