The beast tide hit us like a tsunami.Sienna charged the Daybreak straight into the swarm. I pushed the sensor net to its limit, tracking every threat and guiding her clear of attacks she couldn't see coming.The neural link was already taking its toll. My vision blurred under the strain.I tasted blood and forced myself to swallow it."30 degrees left. After the battle, I woke up in the base hospital, hooked up to tubes and wires.The doctor stood at the foot of my bed, studying my chart."The damage to your nervous system is catastrophic. It's a miracle you survived." He sighed. "You can forget about piloting a mecha. You won't even be able to do strenuous physical work anymore."Hurried footsteps echoed down the hallway.The door flew open, and Sienna rushed in.A crowd of nurses and wounded soldiers had gathered outside, whispering and pointing into the room."Isn't that Kane?
