A Thousand Miles Away From Home.
I had been to the beach a thousand times since my mom passed away. I came here to escape reality. The reality of how lonely my life was, so boring and lonely it was pushing me to the brink of depression.I went to the beach so early and left so late, I would do anything just to get away from the hush that greeted me back at home. In school, I was a rich girl who had everything but little did they know that I would give anything to have their lives. I wanted a family who would love me, a real home. But what I had was a big mansion filled with people who worked for my father who was always traveling the world.I had friends, most of whom I didn't really consider as friends. I didn't consider most of them as friends because they were just friends with me because I was the daughter of a billionaire business mogul, most of them knew more about my dad than they did about me. Most of them except Zaynab. Zaynab was the only true friend I had but I s

Welcome To Port Nambunis
Port Nambunis stopped feeling like home before Lokun and his family moved here. I was always dreaming of when I would finish school, move away, and travel the world. Then Lokun and his mysterious family changed all that. At least for a while.Nambunis is known for its nightlife and beach parties. "This must have been what Shunbunmi was talking about when she said she wanted to party," I thought to myself. "I'm going to have to ask my uncle for permission to attend Alani's party though. You know how these old people are," Zaynab said."Well, I don't have to ask for anybody's permission. I guess this is one of those times I have no problem with having a father who is never around," I replied"Here you go, talking crazy again. You know I'm always here for you.""Yes of course I know," I smiled and hugged her for a moment then let go."Well, I guess I'll see you at the party.""What if Papa Fatomi does not give you permission to come?"

Revelations
The weekend went by in a flash but it wasn't fast enough for me. I kept thinking about what I saw, why wouldn't Zaynab remember anything, it was unlike her to just forget anything and who would forget about seeing a bunch of fish people with glowing tattoos anyway?"Fish people?" I thought to myself."Hello," Lokun's voice interrupted my thoughts, I turned back, and there he stood with the same smile he always had on his face."Lokun? What are you doing here?" I asked."Well, we go to school here now."Kunbi and Shunbunmi appeared from his back and their father was there too. The man looked like an older version of his children. Very good looking and younger than I imagined with the same silver-colored hair which started to seem weird and a strange stare that made it seem like they were looking into your soul."This is our Dad, Mr. Omishore," Lokun introduced him to me, and just like we have met before he patted me on my shoulder."You must

Welcome To The Family
"The Yemoja (fish people) has always been a vital part of the Yoruba belief system. The Yoruba's believe that there are worlds within our world and the underwater realm of the Yemoja is just one of them. What you would call myths and superstitions are indeed stories lost in time. Most African languages had no written form, so our ancestors passed down their knowledge, wisdom, and documentation of their experiences through oral tradition. The people of this town have always had contact with the water people and they have always lived among us," Baba Fatomi explained."But how can you be so sure, Baba," I asked.?"If a youngling possesses more new clothes than the aged, he or she can't possess more rags than the aged. I am a chief priest of Orunmila the god of wisdom, you don't think I know what I speak of?"You wouldn't be here asking me about the Yemoja if you haven't had a glimpse of reality, child." "I told you, it's for a school project," Zaynab inte

Tokunbo(Came from the sea)
We were taken back to their mansion, the journey was a very quiet one for a while, with the siblings giving themselves strange looks, and occasionally, Lokun and Shunbun would smile. Kunbi wouldn't take his eyes off me until I couldn't take it anymore."You don't need to scare me, you know?" I shouted."Stop being weird, brother," Lokun intervened."By not being weird you mean I should stop being myself? Because that is what our kind is to hers, weird! And that is why they would hunt us down like dogs while we have protected them over and over again," Kunbi replied."Just leave her alone, Kunbi! She is not her family!" Shunbun interrupted."Don't tell me what to do, Shunbun! She is the enemy and the only reason this human still draws breath is that our foolish brother, Lokun claimed her!""He what?" I exclaimed, turning to Lokun for answers."Yes I claimed her and that means she is family and you cannot touch her! Shout all you want but that

The Council
Shunbunmi was surprisingly a good company. We stayed up chatting through the whole night. The boys didn't sleep either. The loud sound of music mixed with occasional laughter and oud chattering continued through the nightAt first, I thought Mr. Omishore would complain, but no complaint came. He didn't sleep though, he kept going to check up on Zaynab and the other girl. Whenever I heard his footsteps I stopped speaking and Shubun laughed at me."You have nothing to be afraid of in this house. Every one of us would die to protect you, you're family now," she whispered."So...how does that work? I really have to ask you what you mean by that. What does it mean for someone to be claimed?" I asked. My question was met with a peal of loud laughter. "You like Lokun, don't you?" She asked me, still laughing."Well, I like him but I am not sure I am comfortable with belonging to anybody.""Don't you humans have a tradition of joining two souls t

The Chosen.
My father stood up wide-eyed, and everything stood still at that moment. "What the hell are you doing here, Bisi?" he screamed."Well, I could ask you the same question, Dad," I replied, and started walking back to the room where Zaynab was kept. When I got there what I saw would have made me pass out again if I wasn't used to the weirdness that came with the Omishore family. Zaynab was fast asleep, and a figure I had never seen in the house before stood over here caring for her. I thought it was one of the children in a lab coat, but as he slowly turned his face towards me I was greeted by a creature with a pale bald bulbous head, dark, large eyes, a beaklike mouth, and two tentacles going down fro from his mouth to the shoulders. I shrieked, using all my strength not to scream. The meeting that I crashed wasn't going too well, and my screaming could have very much made the parties involved result in violence. I wondered how that would go for a second. The m

Dreams and Realities.
I dreamt of getting away from this damn town for so long, I dreamt of seeing the world, but another fate awaited me. Becoming the Yeye Osun meant I would have to spend the rest of my days in this town I hated so much. I hated the idea even more. But then it wasn't until I realized how important my role as the Yeye would be, not until I realized who the enemy was and what they were capable of did I choose to accept this fate that awaited me.After two months of pleading, meetings, and convincing. My father reluctantly agreed with the council that I had to become the Yeye. I got sick shortly after crashing the council meeting at the Omishore's, and it was getting worse. I was taken to the hospital but "it wasn't something we could touch," the doctors said. It was then that I realized the level of control that the council had over the things that went on in the town, the doctors at the hospital already knew about me, they knew what was wrong and they knew they mustn't do anythin

Back to School.
Lokun stayed by the hospital even after he was escorted out, when I asked him, he said he could no just stay apart from me. This filled me with both confusion and sweetness in my belly. School started and I was finally well enough to return. Fucking small towns, stories went around and rumors got spread so easily.Lokun and his siblings came to pick me that early morning. Their jeep was seen parked in front of the mansion gates by some workers and reported to my father, I thought he was about to go get his rifle and run to the gate when I saw his face, his anger and disapproval shown on his face but when I stood in front of him, he became calmer and whispered "I do not trust those things, baby. I don't like this."It is okay, dad. I'm safe with them," I replied then smiled brightly as I hugged him. I then walked out the gates. The siblings were already waiting in the jeep, Lokun emerged from the vehicle as and hugged me tightly, whispering "Welcome  back, Bisi."
