Panic Room

Prologue

Blood was everywhere, on the ceiling, the floors, the bed. The coppery smell of the warm red liquid filled the air, making my nose wrinkle in disgust.

I rubbed my blood-covered hands through my hair. The rage simmered as the adrenaline left my body. It was like I was stuck in a haze.

 Why was I covered in blood, and who did it belong to?

I looked down at the mutilated body before me; her face was no longer recognizable. All I knew was she had done something to earn my wrath. I move my eyes up to the blood-splattered wall; a picture of a young woman hugging what appeared to be her husband stared back at me.

The memories came rushing back—the club music pounding in my ear drum, the smell of sex and alcohol in the air. But I couldn't focus on the words that were being sung or the people around me as my focus locked on her and him. The way she threw herself at him like the whore she was.

No one else could have him; no one else could touch him. He was mine and mine alone. I watched his red eyes spark with triumph as he watched me, ignoring her as she kissed his neck, touching and tasting him like he was hers. He was enjoying this, watching me as my heart was shattered into a million pieces, but no matter how cruel he was to me, he knew I would come back for more. He was a drug, my drug, and I was addicted.

The jealousy seemed to return, drowning out any guilt I was starting to feel for what I did. A wicked smile spread across my lips.

How could I feel guilty for protecting what belonged to me? 

I ran my finger along the blade of the butcher knife, my sinister face smiling back at me. The blood painting my skin only made me crave more of it. I lifted the knife, ready to slam it back into the lifeless corpse in front of me.

"You've made quite a mess, Love. What am I to do with you now?" A deep silky voice muttered from behind me. My heart skipped a beat, sending a shiver up my spine.

I dropped the knife the sound of the metal hitting the hardwood floor echoed through the empty house just like her screams did. I looked up into the ruby gaze of the demon before me. His expression was blank, bored, revealing nothing of what he was thinking to me.

"She deserved it; she deserved every second of it. She doesn't love you as I do. No one ever will."I whispered. The demon crouched before me, trailing his finger down my face, coating his index finger in blood. I closed my eyes, a soft moan passing through my lips.

I opened my eyes to find him watching me, a smugness filling his eyes. He liked to see me desperate for his attention. He loved it when I begged for him to give me even an ounce of his attention.

He placed his finger in his mouth, my eyes tracking the movement as I watched him breathlessly. My cheek, where his finger had been, burned with a heat that made my toes curl. I yearned for him to touch me again.

He wrapped his lips around his finger, sucking it clean. I waited with bated breath wanting him to praise me for what I had done. For him. For us.

I was a woman of God before I met him. I lived a life free of sin, rules, and darkness. But he brought me to life; he showed me what I was missing. For him, I would commit every sin imaginable. His long tongue ran across his lower lip before he flashed me a cruel smirk.

"Well, now that's the problem, Love. A monster like me isn't capable of being loved." I reached my bloodied hand out to touch him, but he moved out of the way, causing my hand to drop onto my lap instead.

"You aren't a monster," I whispered, my voice not entirely my own. He let out a dark chuckle moving towards me.

"Oh, but that's where you're wrong, my little pet. I'm the worst kind of monster there is." I gasped as his hand slammed into my chest, a scream tearing through my throat.

It was like a spell had been broken. Fear poured through my veins. I wanted to run away, hide, but I couldn't, and as he ripped my heart from my chest, I was left with one last thought before everything went dark.

How the fuck did I get here?
