Which Characters Get New Point Of View Chapters In The Latest Game Of Thrones Book?
Just finished the new A Song of Ice and Fire novel and loved the surprising POV additions. Who did George R.R. Martin finally let us see the world through?
Jon Connington's greyscale is such a clever device. It's a physical manifestation of his internal decay—his shame, his desperation, his creeping mortality. It also adds constant urgency and a sense of inevitable loss to the (f)Aegon campaign. He's racing against his own body, which makes every setback feel catastrophic.

The structural choice to have so many one-off or limited POVs (Melisandre gets one, Varamyr gets one) is interesting. It suggests Martin is using POVs more surgically—deploying them exactly where needed for a specific insight or plot point, rather than committing to following a character for the whole journey. It makes the narrative feel more mosaic.

A lot of folks forget about Varamyr Sixskins' prologue. It's technically a POV, and it's new for 'Dance'. That chapter does more world-building about wargs and the afterlife in like fifteen pages than most fantasy books do in a whole volume. It's chilling, profound, and sets the tone for the whole novel's themes of identity and consciousness.

Quentyn's mission is such a Dornish move—bold, romantic, and based on a decades-old marriage pact nobody else remembers. Seeing it fail so spectacularly through his eyes is a commentary on the futility of old-world diplomacy in the face of raw power (dragons) and new-world chaos (Slaver's Bay). His POV is the vehicle for that theme.

"If you can't satisfy me with your mouth, then you'll have to satisfy me some other way."
In one swift motion, he tore off her flimsy top and skirt, tossing the shredded fabric aside. The implications of his actions became quite clear to Visenya. "Please, let me try again... with my mouth. I believe I can..."
"Quiet!" Lucian's voice reverberated off the walls of his bedchamber, instantly silencing her.
This was not the way she had envisioned her first time. She had imagined passionate kisses and tender caresses from a man who loved and cherished her. But Lucian was not capable of love, and he certainly didn't cherish her. Instead, she was cursed with a mate consumed by vengeance, and wanted nothing more than to watch her suffer.
———
Ten years had passed since dragons ruled over the world, and Visenya had taken her rightful place as the Lycan Queen. Vampires were forced into the shadows, as hunting and enslaving humans became punishable by death. Finally, the world found peace. However, everything changed when Dragon Lord Lucian emerged from his induced slumber, only to discover the annihilation of his entire race at the hands of Visenya's father. Stripped of her kingdom, Visenya was condemned to a life of servitude as Lucian's slave. The cruelest twist of fate awaited her when she learned that her long-awaited mate was none other than the vengeful Dragon Lord himself.
Consumed by their mutual hatred, will they be able to resist the powerful bond between mates? Or will Lucian push Visenya to her limits, only to regret it in the end?
WARNING: This story may contain content that some may find disturbing.
The mate bond was supposed to be her salvation. Instead, it destroyed everything Mira thought she knew.
Her engagement to Dorrin, the Royal Commander, falls apart when the bond appears with Alexander, the Lycan prince shrouded in secrets. Soon, dangerous attempts on Mira’s life begin, and the truth is terrifying: the people closest to her are hiding betrayals that could bring down her kingdom.
Can she trust the mysterious prince who sets her soul on fire, even if he might be the one holding the dagger? Or will she turn to the friend who shares her bloodline and her past?
In a world of dragons, lycans, and deadly politics, one wrong choice could cost Mira not only her crown—but her life.
He was ruthless and a killer, she knew, everyone knew. Everyone had heard takes of hus tyranny and feared for her life.
Yet she couldn't bring herself to run away from him when he had requested her father send her to him.
She was a princess and this was the price she would pay for her people.
But when she arrives and things are a lot more different than she'd ever known how does she find a way to tell everyone that all they knew was a lie?
I died with my husband's betrayal on my lips and my unborn child in my womb.
One moment I was Mia Weston — billionaire, wife, mother-to-be. The next, I was gone. Erased. Traded like a chess piece by the man who swore to love me forever.
Then I woke up.
Silk sheets. Marble walls. A maid calling me "My Lady."
And a father I had never met looking me dead in the eyes saying —
"You have been promised to King Zyren of the Draconis Throne. You leave at sunrise."
I thought I was dreaming.
I was wrong.
King Zyren is not a man. He is ancient, ruthless, and devastatingly beautiful in the way that only dangerous things are. He doesn't smile. He doesn't explain. He simply looks at me like I am something he has been waiting for — and that look alone makes my whole body tremble.
He calls me his traded bride.
I call him my nightmare.
But nightmares don't look at you like you are the only breathable air in a burning room.
Nightmares don't press you against cold stone walls and whisper "You will learn your place, little human" with a voice so deep it rewrites your bones.
And nightmares definitely don't make you forget — even for one dangerous, breathless second — the man who killed you.
I was sold to settle a debt.
He had waited centuries for exactly me.
Neither of us was prepared for what came next.
How will the Lannister family handle the rumors of the blood-stained virgin whom their son had mercilessly taken advantage of? With the press on their neck, Monica Lannister and Warren Lannister had to do something about it.
They did?
Or
They didn't?
However, what if the blood-stained virgin girl was more than whom they assumed she was?
Dangerous?
Or
Manipulative
Or
Both?
Perhaps, she came back for revenge; for all, they had done to her previously? For the love, she was deprived? For the maltreatment she experienced?
Possibly, she could be the rich kid whom he had loved all of his life.
You can only find out in this novel.

*She was banished to die. He saved her to possess her. Now three kings want to claim her… and the secret she carries could shatter kingdoms.*
Elysia Belrose has spent her entire life as nothing—scentless, powerless, invisible. The night her mother dies, she drowns her grief in the arms of a brutal stranger who makes her feel wanted for one perfect moment… before shattering her: *“Don’t get the wrong idea. This didn’t mean anything.”*
Two years later, she finally finds hope when Killian, the Alpha’s son, claims her as his mate. She tells herself she can earn his love. She’s wrong.
When she discovers him in bed with the Alpha King’s daughter, her rejection provokes his rage. Beaten bloody and accused of seduction, Elysia is banished to the Wildlands for 100 days—a death sentence wrapped in mercy.
But the man who saves her is the same stranger from that night. The one who broke her.
Rhaegar Draven. The Alpha King.
He doesn’t want her. He doesn’t believe in second chances. But when she begs for 99 days of protection, he agrees to one condition: she stays silent, obedient, and out of his way.
Except Elysia is hiding something that pulses beneath her skin, growing stronger with each passing moon. A forbidden bloodline. A secret pregnancy. And a truth that makes her the most dangerous woman alive.
Three men are hunting her—one who wants to reclaim her, one who wants to breed her, and one who’s trying to convince himself he doesn’t want to burn the world down to keep her.
But Rhaegar’s wolf knows what he refuses to admit: she’s his. His mate. His queen. His salvation and his ruin.
In 99 moons, everything will change.
The lack of a new book has ironically changed my view of the timeline. I used to be obsessed with plotting every character's movement on a map. Now, I'm more interested in the thematic timeline—the repeating cycles of violence, the slow decay of institutions, the long memory of vengeance. The story feels less like a race to an ending and more like a tapestry showing how time erodes and repeats. Maybe that's the real change the long wait has created: a shift from plot-focused reading to theme-focused reading.
I still get a little giddy thinking about how the original books are structured — they're so intimate. In the core five-book run, 'Percy Jackson & the Olympians' is entirely told from Percy's perspective. Every chapter in that series is first-person Percy: his voice, his jokes, his panic attacks, and his way of turning disaster into something sort of funny. If you want a clean list for the original series, Percy is the only character who gets POV chapters there.
If you branch out to Rick Riordan's later work that includes Percy or the same mythic world, that's where multiple point-of-view characters appear. 'The Heroes of Olympus' flips to multiple POVs across the series — the main cast who take turns include Jason, Piper, Leo, Percy, Annabeth, Hazel, and Frank, and later volumes also give pages to characters like Reyna. Then there's 'The Trials of Apollo', which is basically Apollo/Lester narrating in first person. Also watch for short-story anthologies like 'The Demigod Files' and 'The Demigod Diaries' that hand the narrative baton to side characters sometimes (Grover, Annabeth, Clarisse and a few others show up in their own pieces).
So short: original Percy series = Percy only. The universes around it = lots of rotating POVs depending on the book. If you want, I can list which characters narrate which specific titles next — I love cataloging that stuff while I sip coffee and rewrite timelines in my head.
