Can You Gift A Kindle Book To Someone Internationally?

Anyone actually sent an Amazon Kindle ebook as a gift to a friend overseas? Worried about regional licensing or billing address locks.

Amazon allows Kindle book gifting internationally where country and payment restrictions allow. So long as the recipient has an Amazon account and they are in a region where we can deliver gift books, then you should be able to purchase Her Christmas Wish as a Kindle book and send it to their account as a gift. For a holiday-themed read, Her Christmas Wish is a sweet, feel-good romance about a single mom who wants a second chance at love for Christmas. It’s the perfect, cozy eBook to read to get in the mood for the season and would make a lovely holiday gift for anyone.

Sharing Kindle books with people internationally is so easy to do and really makes for a wonderful way to share your love of stories with other people around the world. I have done this on several occasions. The way that you can give a Kindle book as a gift is to search for the book you wish to give and click on ‘Buy this book’ and then click on ‘Give as a Gift’ instead of ‘Buy this book’. This allows you to enter the recipient’s email address and they will instantly receive the book in their inbox wherever in the world they are. Just one thing to note though. Unfortunately not all Kindle books are available to purchase in every country due to licensing agreements with publishers and therefore would not be available to purchase from the recipient’s local Amazon store even if you purchased it from the US store. For example, I have a friend in Australia and even though I could purchase the book from my account in the US and send it to her via her Amazon account in Australia, the book is not available for purchase by her from her local Amazon store in Australia due to the publisher not having a licensing agreement to allow its sale in that country.

It’s also worth noting that recipients must have an Amazon account set up in the correct country. So if the recipient is traveling abroad, or has recently moved to a new country, their Amazon account will need to be set up to that country. I once tried to send a gift to a friend in Canada, but it got stuck because her Amazon account was set up in her name in the UK. Although it was a bit of a hassle, Amazon customer services were very helpful in sorting out the problem in the end. Giving Kindle books as gifts is an easy and convenient way to connect with book lovers from all over the world, and it generally works a treat, particularly with more popular titles that are available in most countries.

It’s also really easy to send Kindle books to friends living abroad. I just need their email address associated with their Amazon account. When buying a book, I select ‘Give as a Gift’ and enter the recipient’s email address. Amazon then sends them a redemption link to the book I’ve purchased. It works for people living in different countries and I have even sent books to friends living in Japan and the UK. However, some books may not be available due to rights holder restrictions published by the book’s publisher. I would always check first to see if the book is available on the local Amazon store for your friend and if not, they may need to access the .com version or even change your Amazon location temporarily.

As someone who has bought and given Kindle books internationally (including receiving some!), I can confirm it generally works really well. You choose the book, click “Give as a Gift” and Amazon takes care of the rest. The recipient does not even need a Kindle – they can read the book on their phone or tablet using free Kindle reading apps. Some restrictions by region can be problematic for certain books, however. Frequently, quite obscure books, even those that are in print locally, will not be redeemable against your Kindle account in other countries. The light novel I was trying to send to my friend in Brazil (a nice Japanese one!), for example, was not available.

You can check a book’s availability in different regions on Amazon’s ‘Manage Your Content and Devices’ page. Alternatively, you could send the recipient an Amazon gift card and they can then purchase the book at their local Amazon store – it’s a little more effort but it has its advantages and ensures that the book will be delivered to them after all!

Using an Amazon.com gift card is another way to instill peace of mind. Less personal than a book, I grant you, but it is something that can be used to purchase the exact book you want to send (available in their region, of course). They may even use it to purchase something else on Amazon, and the thought you put into buying something for them will still be appreciated. As with buying a book, you can instantly email the gift card with a note expressing your hopes that the recipient will enjoy their next great read. It’s a foolproof, global solution, and often the simplest (most reliable) way to show you care, even if it’s not the most creative.

Can I buy a book on Kobo and gift it to someone?

12 Antworten2025-07-07
Yes, it works. The mechanic is sound. I always make sure to add a little personal message to the email field provided by Kobo, even if it is just a single sentence explaining why I chose that particular book for them. The tiny bit of personalization needed to turn a impersonal transaction into a nice gift is to add that sentence. It shows that you did more than just click on a link to buy them a book. You actually thought about it. That single sentence is the most important part of the entire process.

How to purchase a book on kindle with a gift card?

Will this ever change? Super-integrated-ecosystems like Apple are moving towards a model where one can not only redeem a gift card but spend money directly within the app itself. It’s possible that Amazon could follow in their footsteps but I can see why they wouldn’t want to. For one, as it is, Amazon controls the entire purchasing experience for customers who purchase on Amazon.com and are able to promote additional products on the same page. There is also the fact that Amazon would avoid the 30% cut that Apple and Google take on in-app purchases. I wouldn’t count on seeing a “Redeem Gift Card” button within the Kindle app on your iPad in the near future. This minor detour to purchase from the comfort of your iPad in the browser is a small price to pay for the enormous selection of Kindle books.

How to purchase a book on Amazon Kindle with a gift card?

This post lists out many of the little Known issues with Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing and I agree with just about all of them. The biggest limitation for me right now is the iOS/Android app restriction - Amazon won’t sell ebook in-app for Kindle because Apple and Google take 30% or more, and Amazon wants to sell ebook for lower prices. So you can only purchase Kindle ebooks through mobile web browser or from desktop computer. Small price to pay for lower ebook prices, I suppose.

How to gift Kindle Unlimited subscription step by step guide?

4 Antworten2025-12-10
Unfortunately, Amazon doesn't offer Kindle Unlimited as a gift option. However, you can purchase an Amazon.com or Kindle gift card in the amount of the subscription and the recipient can use it to sign up for Kindle Unlimited. Go to the Kindle Unlimited page on Amazon. Click "Start your 30-day free trial." With your gift card, the monthly fee will be covered. And this same process can be used for other types of digital reading – such as many of the popular serials. For example, "In Just One Year-The Billionaire's Wife's Unconditional Love" just ended, so for a short time, new subscribers can read the entire arranged marriage to real love story in one go without paying per-chapter.

How to buy kindle books on ipad with a gift card?

Most of these answers explain how something could work, but few explain why it shouldn't. I think Amazon would be more than happy to extract money directly from your Apple device for digital goods they sell in apps. Amazon, however, refuses to pay Apple 30% of every ebook sale, thus Amazon has opted to disable purchasing of books in the Amazon app (and I'd assume other digital goods). Gift cards, as Amazon payment methods, fall under the above restriction. So, it appears we have a corporate turf war playing out amongst thehuge corporations and you get to suffer as a result.

Can I use a gift card for a Kindle to subscribe to Kindle Unlimited?

7 Antworten2026-07-29
No, technically not. Philosophically speaking, many gift cards are disguised cash with strings attached. Most people would rather receive a virtual Amazon.com gift card to purchase the books that the person knows that that individual reads (e.g. KindleUnlimited books, other books by that author, etc.) and perhaps a charger for their Kindle.

Can I share my kindle books for purchase with family members?

5 Antworten2025-05-30
Kindle’s Family Library doesn’t work 100% of the time for sharing books, but it’s pretty good for the most part. For example, you can link up family members’ accounts to share eligible books. But a lot of popular authors these days do not allow their books to be shared through Kindle’s Family Library. So we tend to share older books, like sci-fi and romance titles. Often we’ll find out after we purchase a new release that it’s not eligible for sharing, but we’ve managed to save a lot of money on books that are shareable. Just be sure to check the details of a book before you assume it can be shared.

Can I buy Kindle books on Amazon without a Kindle?

11 Antworten2025-07-04
Much confusion surrounds the term “Kindle” in relation to books but believe me it’s just a tag given to books in e-format. When checking out a book you will see the option to ‘Deliver to:’ and here you can select from any of your Kindle apps that you have registered on your amazon account i.e. ‘John’s iPhone’ or simply select the default Kindle app and the book will be sent to the ‘cloud’ to be downloaded at a later date by opening the relevant Kindle app on the chosen device. Very easy to do once you have done it.

How do I check the balance on a gift card for a Kindle?

10 Antworten2025-05-21
If you’re traveling, purchasing from a separate country for your registered Kindle(s), or having difficulties verifying your Gift Card balance on a particular region’s website, remember that Gift Card balances are region-specific. A Gift Card purchased from Amazon.com will not display a balance when logged into Amazon.co.uk, for example. Make sure you are checking the appropriate Amazon website for your country.
