He saved her from a lifetime of slaving away at a strip club, but the next thing she knows, she's plunged into the dark and dangerous world of organized crime...
Alice Warren was the daughter of two famous murderers. Her fate, which was full of bad luck, finally met its end when the Le Blancs adopted her. The Le Blancs were good and kind people; they helped the poor, donated to charities, and built an organization for the orphans called UNITY.
Alice was already contented with her life, but all of her beliefs and luck crumbled down when she entered Saint Clair Academy, and the series of accidents and deaths started again. Of course, it did not help that an irritating genius artist, Thomas Saint Clair, was always at her tail.
Now that the number of dead bodies increased, Alice had to investigate whether the accidents were just lousy luck full of coincidence or carefully planned-out murders.
Oh, ARTE's crime series are such a gem! If you’re diving into their police procedurals, you’ve got to check out 'Engrenages' (known as 'Spiral' internationally). The cast is phenomenal—Caroline Proust as the tenacious Captain Laure Berthaud steals every scene, and Thierry Godard’s portrayal of the morally ambiguous Gilou is unforgettable. Then there’s 'Balthazar,' where Tomer Sisley brings this charming, eccentric forensic pathologist to life with so much charisma.
Another standout is 'The Bureau' (not strictly a police series but adjacent), with Mathieu Kassovitz delivering a masterclass in spy drama. ARTE’s knack for casting actors who bring depth to gritty roles makes their crime lineup unmissable. I love how these shows blend French noir sensibilities with gripping storytelling—always leaves me craving more.
