Reading order debates can get way too academic. For me, it's simple: main five books, then 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' for Dunk and Egg, then 'Fire & Blood'. That's the core narrative spine. Everything else is supplementary reference material you can check out if you're still hungry. Trying to interweave the history tomes mid-series would have killed the momentum for me. Just follow the story Martin wrote and released.

Honestly, the most straightforward path is to read the books in the order they were published. After finishing the five main novels starting with 'A Game of Thrones', you'd move on to the three 'Tales of Dunk and Egg' novellas, which are collected in anthologies like 'Legends' or in the standalone 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms'. They're set about 90 years before the main series and have a lighter tone, but they're crucial for understanding the Blackfyre rebellions and certain family histories.
After that, 'Fire & Blood' is the big one. It's written as a history book, covering the Targaryen dynasty from Aegon's Conquest up to about 150 years before 'A Game of Thrones'. It's dense but absolutely packed with lore that contextualizes everything, especially the Dance of the Dragons. The 'World of Ice and Fire' is a beautiful coffee-table companion with artwork, but a lot of its text is summarized in 'Fire & Blood'. I'd only get that if you're a completionist who wants the visuals. The reading guides that suggest mixing in the novellas and history books chronologically with the main series seem overly complicated for a first-time deep dive; publication order lets you discover the world the way most fans did.

When the apocalypse struck, Ray Morley was brutally murdered and eaten by his wife's family.
Only in his dying moments did he learn the cruel truth—his beloved son wasn't his own flesh and blood. He had been nothing more than a pathetic stand-in, a fool used and discarded.
But fate gave him another chance. Reborn three months before the end of the world, Ray awakened to find himself in possession of an enormous, otherworldly storage space.
This time, he wasted no time—he divorced his venomous wife, won a massive lottery prize, stormed into the stock market, and earned billions. He built fortified shelters and hoarded mountains of supplies.
In this new life, he would make his ex-wife and her family pay—every last one of them. No more groveling. No more weakness. This time, Ray would rise above it all.
“I reject you.”

Claire Hart loved her husband, Fabian Arrow, for seven years with unwavering devotion. She believed their quiet marriage—free of passion but rich in stability—was built on mutual trust and unspoken understanding. Even when affection faded into routine, Claire convinced herself that love did not need to be loud to be real.
She was wrong.
On the day everything finally fractures, Claire discovers that Fabian has been secretly reconnecting with his first love, Maxine Wells. What begins as emotional distance soon reveals itself as betrayal—but the deepest wound comes from an innocent voice. Claire overhears her young daughter, Susie, wishing that Maxine were her real mother, and Maxine calmly promising to make that wish come true.
In that moment, Claire reaches her breaking point.
Without confrontation or drama, she walks away from a marriage she fought alone to save. What she leaves behind is not just a husband, but a life built on silent endurance and misplaced hope.
As Fabian slowly realizes that love is not something that can be replaced or postponed, regret comes too late. Claire, determined to reclaim herself, crosses paths once more with Aaron White—a man from her past who once loved her deeply and never truly let her go. With Aaron, Claire begins to understand what love looks like when it is patient, present, and chosen every day.
Torn between a past that broke her and a future that promises healing, Claire must decide whether love deserves a second chance—or whether the bravest choice is to let go and move forward.
After the Breaking Point is a poignant story of betrayal, self-worth, and rediscovering love after loss, proving that sometimes the end of one love story is the beginning of a far greater one.
