“I don't love you,” I murmured.
He set his wine aside and stood. Slowly, he closed the distance between us, then touched my chin with his fingertips. His gaze drifted to my lips before settling back on my eyes.
“I don't love you either, Princess, and I never intend to.”
He said the words with utter coldness before stepping away and sitting down again. The gesture infuriated me.
“Then why did you fight in a tournament for my hand? Is all of this simply because I'm a princess?” I shot back.
“You are a Lancaster princess, and I need a worthy heir.”
“I wish my womb could remain as barren as the desert sands, Commander.”
He stared at me, and I caught a flash of anger in his dark eyes. But in the very next instant, he concealed it behind his cynical smile.
“Then I suppose we'd have to try many times, my dear, until your womb became a little less barren. I might even keep trying for the rest of my life,” he retorted with a mischievous smile.
In a tournament for the hand of Princess Helena Lancaster, her destiny becomes entwined with that of John Chase, a fearsome commander and warrior. With his peculiar personality, he embodies everything she despises: possessive, audacious, authoritarian, and overwhelmingly dominant. And he is the man most likely to win the tournament for her hand.
But John Chase is far more than a commander from Raven Island. He hides a dark secret—one that will change her life forever.
An island filled with mysterious men, each with their own secrets and conflicts, is about to become Helena's new home, and she will become their mistress. Soon, Helena discovers that a great danger lurks on the island.
Can she trust her husband to protect her?
