He leans forward and kisses her cheek. ***** Present summer: 21-year-old Jake and Brianna Third person POV It was August 17th today. Brianna had officially turned 21 years old a few days ago on the 14th. She had come to celebrate Jake's birthday a few weeks ago and decided to spend the summer with the Mitchells these last few weeks before having to leave back to USC.

Sam cocked his head to one side. "Who do I need to threaten?" Sam asked automatically. Emelie giggled and shook her head. This was the brother she recognized. "Nobody, Mom and Dad love him. His name is Jake, and he plays football at State," Emelie replied. Sam narrowed his eyes. "A guy in college, Emelie? How long have you been seeing him? How old is he?" Sam asked. "We just met last week...and I don't know, he's a sophomore so I'm guessing nineteen or twenty. He's really sweet," Emelie added.

This child was not ordinary. "How old are you? Why do you keep speaking down to me?" Tales asked sharply. No, that wasn’t what he meant to ask. He had intended to ask why the poison hadn’t affected Jake. "I’m ten," Jake replied shortly, laughing at Tales for asking something so ridiculous. "I only need to speak politely to people who are more capable than me," he said with a bragging tone. "You’re nowhere near that." Tales’ eyes narrowed as he scowled at the child. Jake spoke as though he were looking down on something pathetic and disposable.

“What is it that you want?” Warren shifted on his feet. “I want you to kill Devon Longshire.” Jake huffed out a laugh. “They have a word for this. Entrapment. I’m not a hitman.” “I know exactly who and what you are, Jake.” “I’m an ex-con riding with an MC,” Jake said. “My room’s not wired, I’m officially on leave. You can check,” Warren said. “I know. You’re also divorced from Marcie and you have a three-year-old daughter named Emi-Lee.”

Before the engine could even cut out, the heavy oak front door of the main house slammed open. "Look who finally decided to bring the hostage!" a loud, booming voice echoed across the lawn. Jacob "Jake" Bill lounged on the porch railing, a half-eaten green apple in one hand and a basketball spinning effortlessly on the index finger of his other. Jake was nineteen, six-foot-one, with a messy, sun-bleached brown crew cut and sharp green eyes that always looked like they were searching for the nearest source of entertainment. He was Mike's childhood shadow—wherever Mike went, Jake was usually raiding the fridge or causing a scene close behind.

He glanced at his desk uncertainly. “Look, I had a controlling father who even now is running my life. I am thirty-five and can help steer you in the right direction if you let me.” Todd looked at him again but hesitated to say anything. “It’ll be our secret.” He nodded and took out his pictures. “I don’t want to work here. This is what I want to do. It’s a farm out in North Dakota.” Jake took the pictures and looked through them. “Why do you want to farm?”

Something I really should have thought about before I started making out with him and sneaking off into his truck. “Jake, how old are you?” He turns his head slightly, eyebrow raised. “Why?” I shrug, trying to look casual. “Just wondering.” There’s a pause, then—“Nineteen.” I blink. Oh. Not bad. Not bad at all. I mean, yeah, I’m technically twenty and in my second year of university, but a year’s difference is nothing. It could’ve been worse. I let out a slow breath, keeping my expression neutral. “Cool.”

"I promise you it is not my fault I am this late." She looked up at me but continued doing her push-ups "91,92,93,94,95,96,97,98,99,100!" She counted then stood up, "That is how late you are...Jake wouldn't let you leave his bed?" she asked winking her left eye. I laughed sarcastically "If only that was the case, he wouldn't let me leave the house just because...long story cut short . Jake is keeping a few things from me and I am not happy about us having secrets between us after everything we went through."

My heart leaped with joy and I almost hugged him. "Thank you Jake. You do not know how much this means to me." "Anything for you baby girl." I smirked when he called me that. He stood up to leave. "Jake?." I called and he turned. "How old are you?" I asked. His eyes raised at me, and he looked amused. "359 years old." I wasn't shocked to hear that. "What were you doing in high school?. It's past your age." He cackled.

And, I’ve changed a lot! I guess Jake could tell my mood changed, lined up three more shots, and commented, “You know you’re handsome, I mean you’re the most sexiest man I’ve seen. Don't worry there's a woman for you. If you’re not very young yet, I’m all for you and let’s be honest. There wouldn’t really be any competition for me,” he gives me a wink. Jake was only 20, that bastard especially since he’s a werewolf who has looked 18 for the past three years. I'll admit he's handsome too but I don't really like him. He had gages and tattoos and had holes, which I went through, but I liked the woman who craved for me, who loved me as what I am.
