"He was at a council session forty minutes south. He received word and left immediately." I walk beside her and I listen and I do not say anything. "He arrived twelve minutes after it ended." Twelve minutes. I let that number sit in me as we walk .... the specific, terrible precision of it. Not an hour. Not a day. Twelve minutes. Close enough that the difference between arriving and not arriving is the length of a short meeting, a slow road, a decision made four seconds later than it could have been. Close enough to spend nine years doing the mathematics of what twelve minutes contains and what twelve minutes costs.

Does their world have access to cures for something like this? Would she agree to go if they did? Taking it, I settled down on one of the plush sofas, which somehow didn’t reek of dust, and began to read. Twenty minutes later, or so I thought, I heard Rachel’s voice. “Time’s up! We have to go!” I immediately protested. “But I’ve only been reading for twenty minutes!” I raised my brow as I observed my friends exchanging confused expressions, including Diana. “You’ve been reading that particular book for more than three hours, Dora,” Levina stated, staring at the book. The intensity of her gaze, mirrored by the others, made it clear they were curious about what had occupied my time, especially since it wasn’t a large volume.

The author gave me an extremely clear explanation of everything, much like Sara did for me. It took me seven hours to finish reading the book. I have no idea how I managed to sit still for so long. Perhaps this is a result of my discovering this book to be a conduit for my flow state. I'd finally managed to take my mind off of Sara. Jerry was right; I couldn't dedicate my entire life to finding her. I need to set aside a specific day or week to search for her, and during my free time, I must concentrate on my other tasks.

I had been reading for almost twelve hours. I grabbed my laptop and opened it. Fifteen minutes later, I had ordered ten thousand copies of March Madness. I had only stopped at ten thousand because that was all that was printable at the moment.

he instructed me. “Alright” Taking the keys from him, I wait for him to leave. “You have one hour and twenty minutes” he added as he decided to leave. My eyes widened. Forty minutes have already passed. I should be quick. I started with the top shelf corner. It took me twenty minutes as I went through every page, reading history, about curses and stuff. One hour passed by and I was losing my hope as only two books were remaining. Only twenty minutes and I went through the remaining two books. My heart was saddened when I did not find the cure. With an angry growl, I kicked the shelf. And a small leather book fell down. Frowning, I took a look and flipped it.

I flipped the novel to the back, and my eyes wandered to the details about the author and the book. "Let's just pretend like we are not, okay? Anyways, I called to remind you about the game we planned to play." My eyes went round, and I scrolled through my phone's messages to check the time. It's been twenty-three minutes past an hour since I started reading this book. "Owie Nate?....." I tried to explain, but he stopped me from any further explanation. "What were you doing that you didn't realize it had passed our agreed time?" I shrugged, knowing he couldn't see me.

Urgent footsteps pounded outside the command vehicle. A pale-faced communications officer yanked the door open. "Captain Hunter, the EOD team inside just failed their second attempt. Luther reports that the bomb's detonator has an anti-tamper chip, and their equipment can't read it. We've got 21 minutes left on the timer." "21 minutes?" I shot up from my chair, the handcuffs cutting into my wrists until they bled. "Let me go in there! I have the decryption key for that anti-tamper chip. It's on my phone!"
