Raphael’s finger hovered, then clicked once on the trackpad. He was sitting on the balcony, shirtless, exposing tattoos so intricate they looked like clothes sculpted onto his skin, ignoring how the wind bit hard. The silhouette of his broad frame stayed hunched in the pale cast of morning light that bled through the penthouse windows, a lit cigarette dangling between his left fingers. Outside, Manhattan moved in slow-motion. Cars were the size of ants and the world felt too small beneath the altitude of his penthouse and its soundproof glass.

Klara looked at the five familiar paintings that hung on the walls of her study deep in thoughts. So, the paintings! Ralph sent her these as her birthday present. His hands began to shift, claws emerging as his rage threatened to overtake him. "Raphael, no!" Logan's voice cut through the chaos. He moved swiftly, grabbing Raphael's arm and yanking him back from the edge. "You can't go after him like this."

Most of the time, Raphael knows what I am feeling before even I can work it out, but then he has the advantage of seeing things from the outside, so usually, he sees and understands both sides of anything before I do. After I had sent Raphael and Brett to find Yasmine, I entered the history room. I was amazed at all the paintings of the royal families and some of the most important times in our past. I didn't know it then, but I do now. Why I was drawn to two specific paintings, the first was of King Darius and his Queen Mira along with their forbidden daughter.
