Adrian asked, his hands pausing on his laces. "Let me see your left foot." Ethan gently gripped the toe of Adrian's boot, tilting it toward the harsh fluorescent light. He pointed to the structural seam. "Look at this. The locking mechanism is completely loose. If you take a hard turn on the ice, this blade is going to snap right out of the holder." Adrian’s eyes narrowed. He reached down and gave the steel runner a firm tug. With a sickening click, the blade wobbled loosely in his hand. If he had stepped onto the ice, his ankle would have snapped the moment he crossed the blue line.

~Toby POV~ I walk through the cafeteria, holding my tray close to my chest. The lunchroom feels like a shark tank, and I’m the smallest fish in it. I usually eat in the service hallway or the basement, but the heater in the east wing broke, and the cold was making my fingers feel numb. I just needed twenty minutes of heat. Sadly, as a janitor, the cafeteria is a busy place of people who think I’m part of the furniture. I find a table in the very back corner, tucked behind a big stone pillar.

"No treat?" He gave a long, slow shrug. "Should I expect one?" He turned around immediately. "See no. Just focus and watch me make you eat my dust." I skated a few laps, testing the ice, the glide, the sharpness of my turns. And damn, it was perfect. I glanced back at Tristan, who watched from the sidelines, arms crossed, his expression amused. "Not bad," I announced, gliding down and stopping right in front of him. "Makes it better that no one can hear us."

“I’ll order takeout.” That did it. Zach launched into it immediately, throwing an arm around Jamie's shoulders and starting down the hall. “Okay, basics. Ice is divided into zones—offensive, defensive, neutral. You’ll hear guys yelling about line changes, that’s just rotations. Goalies are weird, don’t take it personally.” Jamie hurried to get his notebook out of his bag, trying to track Zach’s pace and his words at the same time. “And if someone’s taping their stick, don’t talk to them. Ever.”

I realized that the atmosphere would get tense and before my tempers got too high, I decided to intervene. " Why don't we sit down? I see that Judite is already coming with some snacks for us.” Everyone looked at each other as if deciding whether to insist on seeing where Alicia would go and find out why there was so much bitterness in her words or whether to accept my truce. They chose to follow me and soon we were listening to Alicia monopolize the conversation again with her stories about travel and how successful she was on social media. Beatrice remained silent and Ricardo had his attention completely focused on Alicia because even with all the rejections she had already given him that

The cool liquid felt like a tiny relief down my throat. “Feeling better, Ivy?” Walter asked softly, his voice kind. “Yeah… thanks,” I mumbled, trying to hide my embarrassment. Ronan’s eyes were on me, cold and sharp, and I felt every ounce of his scrutiny. “If you’re done acting weird, let’s get down to why you’re here,” he said, voice clipped. “As you can see, I’m super exhausted. I have to be at the ice rink by 10 a.m., so let’s make this fast.”

He skated slowly toward me while locking his eyes on mine with intensity. He stopped a foot away. “Show me the triple axel,” he finally said with a voice devoid of emotion. It sounded more like a command but I liked it. After hesitating for a second, I nodded. This wasn't the time for explanation. He just wanted me to show him what I could now do on the ice. Taking the entry and gathering speed, I forgot about the risk, drove upward and pulled the three rotations through before I had a clean landing. Seeing the landing, he smiled subtly.

That made me stand straighter along with the other guys. "Boys," he greeted, shoving his hand in the pocket of his hoodie. "We have a match on Friday against Green-Hill. It will be held in the local rink and I want no funny business. You know the rules." We knew the rules. Of course we did. "Wade," Coach spoke again. "Remind us of the rules." Wade let out a heavy, exaggerated sigh beside me, and I bit back a laugh as he launched into his usual spiel, repeating the rules for what felt like the hundredth time. "No drinking before games, no missing practice and no distractions."

Ericson uttered ecstatically to Denise as he reached for a bottle of champagne that was situated not far away from him ,inside the ice bucket"You are going to get blown the fuck away!" Late night snacks had become her thing now and she had always had a thing for ice-cream but she could have sworn that it had heightened since she was now avoiding Dexter like the plague. She opened the fridge and smiled widely at the big tub of ice-cream right at the back of the fridge. She pulled it out, left the fridge open to take advantage of the light emanating from it. She opened the kitchen unit where she had put the bowls but to her surprise, there was none.
