With the gifts unwrapped and hearts full, the four of them settled onto the couch, blankets draped over their laps as they picked a lighthearted family comedy to watch. It was one of those feel-good movies filled with goofy characters, exaggerated expressions, and harmless pranks that had the twins giggling before the first punchline even landed.

I curled up with Chris in his bed as we watched a movie. He’s been worried about me over the past week, which I feel bad about. I hate worrying everyone. Chris surprised me with a home-cooked dinner and a movie; A Journey Back to Christmas, my favorite Christmas movie ever. I sighed as we watched, “What’s wrong?” Chris asked; I shook my head, but Chris was not about to take that for an answer. He paused the movie and straightened up, waiting for me to talk to him.

I lean over and give him a quick kiss. Reece smiles and puts his hand on my thigh. I look over at Raikin, who is watching us and give him a kiss too. I put my hands under the blanket, pulling it up to my chin in case I need to cover my eyes. The movie starts off pretty slow and honestly kind of stupid, but it doesn't stay that way for long. About fifteen minutes into the movie shit starts getting crazy. A sweet family trying to enjoy their Christmas dinner is taken hostage in their own home.

' song on repeat in my brain. Van chose Arthur Christmas. Val chose How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Ricky chose Home Alone 2, one of his favorite movies. Sara chose Christmas Chronicles on Netflix. I chose The Santa Clause. Wilder and Wyatt passed on picking movies, because it was late and they wanted Grandpa to have a turn. He pulls out his movie from his pocket, handing the DVD to Wyatt. Grandpa Mick has Jacks now, holding him close and I love the sight. I pull my phone out and take a picture.

I plastered a smile on my face towards Kai, and we left the park, without even riding a single slide. Kai drove us back to his apartment and on the way, we decided to have a comedy movie marathon. Throughout his life, Kai has been collecting movies of all genres and has every movie series you can think of, ranging all the way from The Fast and The Furious, to Disney's Frozen. And it’s the only movie he had for a really long time.”

Arthur and I join the others in the living room, where a beautiful Christmas tree stands, twinkling with lights and ornaments. We gather around, everyone smiling and chatting, waiting for the clock to strike twelve. There’s a sense of anticipation, and I can feel Arthur’s hand tighten around mine. Finally, the clock strikes midnight, and a cheer goes up. “Merry Christmas!” everyone calls out, exchanging hugs and kisses. Gifts are passed around, and the room fills with laughter and joy. After the gifts are exchanged, we all raise our glasses for a toast. Arthur’s father, a kind man with a twinkle in his eye, leads the toast.

I had know from the moment I met him he was a sweet guy but this was an entire new level. I could almost see him hold our baby in his arms swaying back and forth. “We’re going to do something fun.” “Like what?” Autumn asks, looking up at me. She still looks worn down, but there’s a ghost of a smile on her lips. That’s a start. “Christmas movie marathon. We’ll watch some of the classics and some of those awful ones where the girl gives up the job of her dreams to move in with a guy who sells Christmas trees for a living or something.” Autumn’s smile grows. “They’re kind of romantic, in a way.” “What would be romantic is if the Christmas tree seller guy moved to the big city with the girl and got a real job,” Benedict says. “Let him make a sacrifice for once.”
