I was more than pretty
“You say that the way people say the sky is blue even when a storm is coming.”
My throat tightened.
“It’s work,” I said. “Just stress.”
She studied my face, then sighed softly. “This is not work stress.”
I felt the sting immediately.
“This is the kind of trouble that comes with a man,” she added calmly.
My eyes burned.
“No,” I said quickly. “I just… I don’t want to make mistakes anymore. ”
She nodded slowly. “That is exactly how love trouble sounds.”
The room grew quiet.
Then she spoke again, carefully. “You have lived too much of your life carrying the weight of other people’s hearts. Their wounds. Their expectations. Their failures.”
