The hunters knew that they were getting close. They crept forward, their weapons at the ready, until they caught sight of Tate standing in a clearing, his massive form silhouetted against the moonlit sky. Without hesitation, the hunters opened fire, their silver bullets ripping through the air and striking Tate with deadly force. Hunter raised his rifle, sighting along the barrel, but the shot rang out wide, startling the animal. He missed. I threw my head back and laughed. That was all it took. “Do you fuck that weak too?” Hunter exploded. He tossed his gun aside, and in an instant, he was all claws, rippling muscles, and snapping teeth. We were rolling through the woods, fists flying, leaves and twigs crunching beneath us.

Stay still and you'll be fine...” There's a trace of madness in his eyes when he didn't even look back. It directly glance at the bowing trees, that this time bumping so hard to the ground. A boom could be understatement, not adds up the dust that as if trying to escape the place.

My eyes drifted to the packhouse and the surrounding area as Alpha Isak spoke again. “Your new home, Cora, I hope you will be happy here.” He said with a smile. “Hmm. Don’t make yourself too comfortable.” Hunter added with a smirk as he stepped from the car, slamming the door behind him. What the hell did he mean by that? Did he plan to find a reason to throw me out?

I had only seen Mildred and Garren shift, so this was new. Hunter wasn’t nearly as big as Garren, but he was bigger than Mildred. His scales looked rougher, and he had spikes lining his back along his spine. His talons were longer than the others, and his wings looked like they were tipped with ice shards. “Hunter is the last of his kind,” Mildred said low enough for only me to hear. “He’s beautiful. He looks like he is covered in pieces of ice.” I said in awe. She let out a laugh.

“You're right. The past is the past.” Hunter took a step to the side, making room for me to enter the house that had replaced our burned hut. I followed him through the front door, and what I found inside left me speechless. The rooms of the house were spacious and well-appointed, completely different from the modest hut I remembered. Modern furniture and top-of-the-line appliances filled the space, and I was amazed by the changes. There were two living rooms, a huge kitchen that looked like it came out of a home decor magazine, and all I saw was proof that Hunter's life had changed dramatically.

He unlocked the gun case and gestured inside. “Pick. Ladies first, gentlemen.” A shiver ran down my spine as his husky voice washed over me. I grabbed a rifle, not even caring which one it was in my hurry to get away from the tantalizing scent the man wore. I deposited my bag inside of the gun safe and walked out of the hall. I was determined to put as much distance between me and them as I could. We normally hunted in groups, but my father had taught me well enough that I could take down a deer by myself. Getting it back to town, on the other hand, would require the men. Fuck.
