she said in an impassive voice. I gave a curt nod and left with Morfan. I looked into the matter and immediately gave urgent orders to my army in the west. Morfan and I were returning to the banquet. “I want to know luna’s views on the rebel,” Morfan said, and I cocked an eyebrow. “She hasn’t even been crowned yet and you are already siding with her?” I looked at him in disbelief. “You can’t deny, she is smart, strong and beautiful…” “Smart. Yes, she is. Strong. There’s no doubt. Beautiful. She is, but only for me…”

“We don’t hurt people who haven’t hurt us, especially those who are running away from something and need our help.” I look away, shame creeping up my throat. “You don’t have to tell me what happened,” he adds quickly. “But you don’t have to be afraid either.” I look back at him. His kindness is confusing. I don’t know how to trust it. “I was rejected.” The words burn my tongue. Elian tries his best not to look surprised, but I can see the cracks of sympathy and pity breaking across his face. “I was supposed to become Luna.” I scoff a sad chuckle. “But it turns out I'm not the Luna material for him. He rejected me in front of everyone, and the entire pack watched.”

“I will not be owned. Those who challenge me will answer to the Moon—not councils.” She turned and walked away. As she passed Kael, he whispered hoarsely, “I was wrong.” She didn’t slow. “I know.” And in that moment, Alpha Kael Nightfang realized the cruelest truth of all: The Luna he had rejected was no longer something he could win back. I have to be with you today and attend the annual pack event which takes place on your birthday with you.” This was the perfect opportunity to spite and make her furious. I decided to take it. My voice was calm. “I am going with him.” Lydia’s face widened in shock. “You are taking her as your Luna? I am your Luna not her!” I loved how worked up she was. “Enjoy your last days at the Luna of Crescent pack dear sister because it's not going to last. The council members are going to find you guilty and you will be exiled and humiliated in front of every member of the pack, just like I was.”

Yet, she still heard me. “Interested? I’m sorry Luna he forbade us to say this, but he actually went there to get her back. The only reason they didn’t want to be is that she rejected him. There are rumors she’s now involved with Alpha Darius. Hence, the cold attitude.” Natasha looked nervous as she scanned around to make sure there was no-one eavesdropping. “Thank you, Natasha, I'll make sure not to implicate you,” I placed on her shoulder in a re-assuring manner. She nodded in gratitude and she continued her training.
