Karina’s breath hitched in her throat, her pulse quickening as she stepped closer. The shadows around the figure shifted, coiling around him like smoke. He was sitting still, almost unnervingly so. His posture was regal, yet somehow distant. The air was thick with silence, as though the very world was holding its breath.
“Karina.”
Her heart stopped.
The voice was soft, too soft. It felt like a whisper directly in her ear, but when she spun around, there was no one behind her. Only the prince, sitting on the throne, his golden eyes glowing faintly in the dark.
