As I felt what he had felt. Her light was a fire, and we only knew darkness. And yet… she didn’t burn us. She revealed us. She made us vulnerable. The bond had already begun. Not in flesh. Not in blood. In the soul. And that union… was irrevocable.

Here-” he took my own hand and placed it on his racing heart, “-listen.” I heard beautiful music tinkling in the back of my mind. It sounded familiar, and made me feel warm and complete. I gasped at the feeling.

“For you.” The darkness surrounding my vision pulled back, the world becoming brighter and clearer as I shook my head and tried to focus on what he had just said. “For me?” I echoed. “You carry a light strong enough that you can touch a soul without being destroyed yourself. The only others who can do that are the reapers who work for Death, and Death himself.” He said, and my stomach dropped. "But I had never touched a soul before. I healed bodies." I said, determined to prove him wrong. I had nothing to do with this.

I didn’t know which, but one thing was clear. “She is alive..." I whispered, a truth I could no longer hide. Then... the pull hit again, stronger and sharper. I gasped. My knees almost buckled. “Ah—!" I gasped, grasping the table. Breath coming rapidly, chest burning as if trying to break through, as if calling me loudly and desperately. I squeezed my eyes shut, feeling it again — that touch, that connection. Deep, raw, real — like someone reaching into my soul.
