A low voice pulled her out of her thoughts. “You look like you are about to start something,” Ace said, stepping out from behind the shed. “You okay?” Ashley hesitated. “Yeah. Just thinking.” Ace gave a dry laugh. “Bad idea around here. Thinking gets people hurt.” He smiled faintly but kept watching her. “You sure you’re good?” She nodded too fast. “I’m fine.” Ace didn’t buy it. “If you are lying, make it a good one next time. We can’t afford ghosts in our heads.”
