Emily was next to Ethan, smaller than both of them but grinning when she saw me.
"Mira," my father said, opening his arms. "You look well."
I let him embrace me. He smelled of pine and old leather. Like home, if home hadn't been a place where obedience was the price of belonging.
"You didn't tell me you were coming so soon," I said, pulling back.
"Emily gave us the news, and I saw no reason to delay." His expression was warm. His tone was not.
"We wanted to express our support to the Lycan King — and to you, of course. This business with the former Luna must be... complicated."
