The One He Let Go
My focus was on finding Aiden.
Mr. Logan called upstairs.
“Theo! Come down here for a moment.”
A minute later, Theo came bounding down the stairs. He was a lanky boy, about Aiden’s age, with messy brown hair and a friendly smile.
“Hi, Mr. Anderson,” Theo said cheerfully.
“Hi, Theo,” I said, trying to sound calm. “Have you seen Aiden today?”
Theo nodded immediately.
“Yeah, he came over this afternoon. We played video games for a bit. But he left before 7. Said he needed to get home before your curfew.”
