“I just… I want you to know that I’m here. Always.” I didn’t respond, and after a moment, he left. Finn was another frequent visitor. His presence was different from Dante’s—quieter, more supportive. He would stop by to check on me, sometimes bringing coffee or small gifts from his travels. One day, he brought a leather-bound book, its pages filled with sketches of jewelry designs from around the world. “I thought it might inspire you,” he said, handing it to me with a small smile. “Thank you, Finn,” I said, flipping through the pages. The designs were detailed and beautiful, and I felt a rush of gratitude. “This is perfect.”

I grab three and haul them off the shelf, not expecting the weight that drags down my arms as I bring them to the table. Book after book, I find nothing on the Moonstone. Finn closes his current book and places it in his read stack before moving on to the next, and I follow his lead, grabbing the next book. “Woah,” I whisper as I reread the paragraph. “What did you find?” Finn asks laying his book down and leaning toward me.

Martin quipped, "Lili, what kind of magic do you possess to shut Jenna down? Amazing." Jenna hugged Martin and buried her head in his shoulder and she whispered, "Favorite author. Dedicate book. To me. Ooooohhhhh!" Martin laughed and said to Lili, "Well you have at least one major fan in the family. I am going to have to read your books to see what has Jenna all star struck." "Oh, they are just books. Finn isn't impressed at all." That's not true!" he defended himself. "Well you haven't even read one of them," she looked at him with raised eyebrows.

They were both impressed that I have already published a half dozen books that have been fairly successful. “I love the Erotic Wizard book you wrote,” Fiona purred. It amazed me that she had already read one of my books. “I get aroused every time I think about those steamy sex scenes you described,” she announced openly. There was a short silence that followed and Franny was grinning broadly when I glanced over at her.

“I’ll ring these up and bill Master McCabe.” “Oh, that’s not necessary. I can afford a couple of books myself.” Hana tried to stop Finch, following him to the register. “So…did we stop here for Hana to get her ancient book fix? And oo those look interesting. You’re sharing.” Pam asked, leaning on the counter to see what books Hana was getting. “This book itself is two hundred dollars.” Finch held up the first edition of Jannot: A French Rabbit by Mireille Marokvia. “And this one is five hundred twenty-five.” He held up the copy of The Birth, life, and Acts of King Arthur by Thomas Malory.

It topples over before I can reach it, spilling crisp money against the wooden floor. "Vergel, what are you doing?" Finn takes a single step between me and the deadly man ahead of me. I quickly found the items I was looking for and paid for them but Finn still beat me and was already waiting at the door. "Did you get what you needed?" he asked. "Yep. All set." I replied happily. "Do you want to stop at the bookstore since you returned your library books? Do you have something to read on the trip because I don't." Finn suggested after we got into the truck. "That's a great idea, but we can't spend too much time there, deal?" I offered. "Deal." he agreed and he drove us over to the bookstore. I breathed in as we walked in. I loved the way bookstores smelled. I smiled when I heard a familiar voice and peaked around the corner with Finn.

I said while looking at Freya from time to time to check if she was following. After a very long look at the book and just when I was about to repeat my question, Freya nodded. With an air of intense concentration, Finn was doing his homework. His answers were correct too. I had briefly explained what they were supposed to do to the twins, but it seemed Finn was the only one to have gotten my explanation. I had dismissed their nanny for the day. I scanned the pages of Finn's book carefully and I could not find a single mistake. His handwriting was neat too. "Good boy, Finn. You did a good job here."
