A white wolf now tattoed onto my palm. Imelda reached forward, gripping my knife in her hand before slowing her palm. She tilted her hand over the goblet, the blood dripping in and making a hissing sound as it made contact with the smooth gold and began bubbling. “I Imelda Kolgrim, Queen of Godric. Accept our deal." A blue flame erupted from the goblet. My palm burned again; I watched as a blue flame consumed the wolf, and then they both vanished from my skin. I looked up at her, slightly confused—a wide grin on her face.

My heart clenches and I can't breathe. Acasia yells, "Pepper, no!" "She's so beautiful," Ashrac whispers. "She'll make a lovely splat." I can't take my eyes from Pepper, but I'm aware that Acasia wallops Ash with her tail. "Sorry, Mother," comes an unrepentant voice from somewhere below me. Acasia whispers into my mind. "Speak to her, Tahr. Tell her not to jump." I throw my thoughts to Pepper. "Don't jump you idiot female." I order. This time Acasia's tail slams into the side of my head and a grunt escapes my throat.

The surrounding ruins swallowed the sound he made, a final rasp of defiance or pain. Then there was silence, Akira’s body limp beneath Asher’s blood-soaked paws. Breathing heavily, Asher shifted back into his human form, his skin smeared in crimson, hair wild, chest still heaving. He looked down at Akira, lifeless, and let out a guttural scream. Fury still pulsed through him, and he wished Akira would awaken, so he could kill him again for every person whom he killed that he loved. But he was forever still, and it was over. It was time to find Makena and claim his birthright.

Kael stared at me, his breathing uneven, his eyes dark with conflict. Finally, he stepped closer, his hand lifting hesitantly before cupping my face. “I don’t want to lose you. Or them. Tell me how to fix this. Please.” I closed my eyes, leaning into his palm despite everything. My voice cracked. “See me. Not just the breeder, not just the womb carrying your heirs.
