Without uttering a word, they knew that change was coming. The next morning, when the first rays of dawn kissed the horizon, a lone figure emerged from the forest. It was Alaric, an ancient werewolf who had chosen to live in solitude for centuries. His presence sent shivers down Sable's spine. Alaric approached with caution, sensing the power and unity emanating from Sable and Jericho . He had heard rumors of their remarkable leadership and the way they had transformed their pack, and he had traveled from afar to witness it for himself.

“Alaric took the deal.” I sat back. Thought about Alaric at the clinic yesterday. The quiet voice. The remorseful face. Just be careful Jane. Not concern. A performance. He’d been sent there to rattle me and he’d done it and reported back and while I was sitting in that cab replaying his words he was already on the phone to Hale confirming it had worked. “What does Hale want you to return?” I asked. “The message. Return what you took.” Allen was quiet for a beat. “Three months ago we intercepted a shipment of his. Rerouted it. It was a business move, a message of our own.” He paused. “He wants it back plus compensation.”

Werewolves were extremely fast, especially compared to me. “Come on!” Alaric latched his hand back onto my arm. His palm was cold and clammy. “What’s going on?” I panted as I tried to keep up with Alaric. Was this fear seeping off of him? I had never seen Alaric scared. He was always confident and a bit too cocky for his own good. “Those howls…” He darted between a couple of trees. “Those howls aren’t from the Fallen Moon rogues. That’s a battle cry. We have to get as far away as possible from them.”

Alaric's gaze scans my naked body, he lets out a low hum of appreciation, his eyes darkening with desire. But then, Alaric's grip on my face tightens, almost crushingly. His eyes darken, suspicion creeps into his expression. "No." He growls. Stepping back, Alaric's hand falls from my face, curling into fists. "You're not her." I stumble back as well, my back hitting the wall, preventing me from retreating any further. "Alaric please... I came because Top thought you needed..." "Needed?!" Alaric's laugh is harsh and unhinged, his voice echoes unnaturally in the shadow-filled room. "What I need is gone! Carla is dead! And you dare impersonate her?!"

The others leaned in closer, their expressions piqued with curiosity. "Alaric?" Samantha repeated, a look of confusion on her face. "I've never heard of him." "That's because his existence has been erased from the history books when he was defeated over forty years ago," Lucas replied. "My parents told me about him when I was younger. Alaric was a Lycan who believed himself to be a god. He claimed to have been blessed by the moon goddess herself, and he convinced others to worship him as a divine being. Alaric's followers were fanatical and would do anything he commanded, even if it meant causing harm to innocent people."

He turned to Moses. “Young Master, you-” “Don’t call me that!” Scar barked softly, looking around. Memories of the past began to flood in, seeking to drown him within them. Moses was one of the werewolves under his father, Alpha Kol, those years back. Moses’s father was a beta, the head housekeeper at the time, and one of those who had been killed because they wouldn’t accept and subject themselves to the new leadership. Moses had somehow escaped, and later found his way here to join Alpha Toni where he was demoted to be a servant, an Omega, all to be closer with Scar.

Prince Ludiciel shouted. Alaric rose into the air, his eyes glowing a faint blue as he raised his hands, summoning a hurricane which he blasted towards the skeletons and soldiers.

I taunted with a playful tone in my voice. Alaric chuckled, his eyes filled with warmth. "Well, I know you consider me a stranger, but trust me, that Alaric you met in that forest, broken and left for dead, is not so different from the Alaric standing here," he replied earnestly. He placed the apples in my palms."I am still the Alaric you took care of in the shack, the one that you brought a meal for day and night,"

Alaric’s tone is mocking. “Do you honestly think you’d be the first she-wolf to try and clinch success with her body? Did you think you could trick me with such an obvious trap?” He laughs at me, the sound bitter and cold. “You probably wanted that new guy Richard to grope you in the hallway. A new doctor, right? The perfect victim for your spell, I bet he has money.” Alaric won’t let up, continuing to mock me. He looks extremely angry. “All that fainting you’ve been doing lately, all these theatrics. You’re probably just trying to stir up sympathy until the right, dumb wolf comes around so you can trap him with a baby.”

Adelaide Alaric lunged in front of the barrier, then moved at the speed of light, sinking his teeth into several wolves, tearing them apart. Up until now, no one had actually taken the first step to do something, but now he had. I had no idea where Violet was, but I had no doubt she was someplace safe because I trusted Alaric. Judging by his big entrance, I could only imagine what he had done to those wolves that had followed after him.
