I just stood there, quietly watching him as he walked, half asleep, toward the refrigerator to get himself a bottle of water. Then he turned around as he drank it and froze when our eyes met. Recognition set in while I maintained eye contact with him and it felt good to see him look so shaken. Lacy, who was completely oblivious to the tension that hung between me and her husband, stepped forward and smiled at him. “Blake darling, this is the private chef I told you about last night. She was my roommate in college and her name is Alex Michigan. She starts the job tomorrow.” She introduced me before turning around to face me.

Alex said and stood up then walked out of the living room before she could give a response. She walked out of the house and saw Austin's car was gone. She walked to the chauffeur and without asking questions or arguing, they both entered the car and he drove out of the mansion. During the drive, Nora thought about what happened last night and all the things Alex said about illegal kinds of stuff. For some reason, she wasn't so surprised but bothered. Won't he get in trouble for that? Isn't it his fault Austin got exposed to drugs? Is this all right with a teenager? Is all his wealth through illegal means?

She was going to die, and I could only watch her, useless, completely useless. Axel returned from the Middle East just last week, where he had gone to search for this facility and the mystery surgeon who fixed the neural implant. He did the search himself, dissatisfied with the results from our agents. But he came back with a lost look. All his leads had led to a dead end. Olivia was still speaking when I got off the bed and pulled her into a tight hug. She froze, going quiet midway into her rant, but finally I felt her hands weave around my waist.

Alexander hovered an inch above the ground, golden flames curling around his body like living serpents. His eyes burned without pupils. His veins pulsed with unstable fire. Elias whispered through cracked lips: “Alex… please… don’t make me kill you…” Alexander tilted his head. Something twisted and wrong. Something no longer human. “…Lena…” His voice, broken and layered, rippled through the clearing. Lena pushed herself up, sobbing, struggling to stand. “Alex—stop—PLEASE—stop this!” Rhea grabbed her wrists. “DON’T MOVE. If you get near him now, he’ll unleash everything. He’ll tear himself apart AND you!”

I had no idea how long we were in that position, but when I finally got back in control of my senses and my body, and tried to move away from him, he didn't let me go. “Let go of me this instant.” I snapped. “You don't tell me what to do, little wolf.” Axton said. His voice this time was surprisingly… calm. I hissed at his last words. “My name is Kayla. Don't use those words to address me again.” “I take orders from no one, little wolf.” He said before letting me go. I quickly raised my head up and tried to climb down the bed, but his hand firmly holding my wrist forced me to stop and look at him.

Through the windows of the faculty house in the distance, I can see the warm glow of the party already in progress. And somewhere inside that house, Professor West is probably laughing with his colleagues, having no idea that Axel Cross is walking toward him with blood in his eyes. I try calling Axel, but it goes straight to voicemail. I send another text, then another. But I already know it's too late. Whatever happens next, there's no stopping it now..
