He was immediately served a glass of champagne. The owner of the car was friendly enough, but Alfonso didn’t care for the hospitality. “I’m afraid you put poison in the glass,” he said.

His refined face showed no ripple of emotion, remaining as coldly noble yet gentle and courteous as ever, as if that momentary pause had never occurred. A faint, natural smile curved his lips.
