Emilia Abel - POV

“Lu…Luis, please.” I stammered as the whip came in contact with my back for the fifth time as I scrambled away, trying to escape. My back felt like it was on fire as I felt the blood dripping down my torn shirt.

“Where the fuck are you going, bitch!” I heard him growl as he took hold of my hair and pulled me back up.

“Argh! Let me go, please!” I begged as the tears streamed down my cheeks while he turned me around. There was an empty look in his soulless black eyes while his jaw was clenched as he stared right into me.

“You whore! Couldn't you do just one thing right?” He sneered as I shook my head and tried to get him to let me go, but his hold on my hair only increased as I felt a part of my hair ripped from my skull.

“So…sorry, Luis. I was exhausted and…”

“Shut up!” I flinched as he roughly pushed me to the floor. “That was my favorite black shirt, and you ruined it,” he growled as his chest rose and fell in anger while I stared at the ground.

We heard the front door open, and a few seconds later, the woman I hated the most walked inside the room. “Darling, am I interrupting something?” the plastic Barbie asked as she gave me a smirk. The anger that Luis had a few minutes ago vanished in an instant as he walked towards that bitch and pulled her into a kiss as I looked away.

“I was teaching this bitch a lesson for ruining the shirt you gifted me,” he said when she wrapped her hands around his neck.

“Don’t hit her, Luis. You know she has always hated me, and I think I should just leave if it is causing this much trouble in your relationship,” she said in a fake voice, but he immediately shook his head.

“Forget about her. Let's go on that date.” Luis said, and she nodded her head. He turned around and marched towards me, and before I could think what he was about to do, I felt his hand come in contact with my cheek, making my head turn to the side.

“I will deal with you later.” he sneered as he walked out of the house. Tears flowed down my cheeks when I heard the clicking of heels get closer to me till I was consumed by the scent of her overpowering perfume.

“I told you I would make your life a living hell,” she whispered before she walked out of there. Luis was the most handsome and popular guy in our pack, and every girl had a crush on him, and so did I. Any girl would have killed to be in my place right now. And just like how he was the guy everyone wanted, Ava was the queen bee in our school, thus, Luis’s first girlfriend. But right after high school, she left him and went to college. Everyone thought that their relationship had ended, and so did I.

And I was over the moon when I found out that I was his mate. Everything was okay between us in the beginning, right when she came back. I thought she would leave him alone now that he had a mate, but I was so wrong. They began to sleep together, and this caused a lot of arguments to break out.

A few months later, she came to our house to tell him that she was pregnant. I had never seen Luis that happy before, and this literally broke me from within. She wanted him to accept her as his mate, but according to the law, a man can only have one mate. I know finding a second chance mate is extremely rare, and I didn't want to leave Luis.

I loved him, and I was firm with my decision. But Ava wasn't one to back down. Three months ago, there was a dinner party at the pack house, and she purposefully fell down the staircase and had a miscarriage while she blamed me for that accident.

No one believed me, not even Luis, and that was when the beating began. That night, he lost his baby while I lost the one chance I had at love. Now he beats me at every chance he gets, and I don't think I could take this anymore.

I thought that he would change. That he might see that she was only toying with his feelings, and she might one day leave him if someone better comes along.

I wiped away the stray tears and got up from the floor. No matter what happens, I need to make sure my plan goes through. My back felt numb as I walked out of the living room and into my bedroom. I walked into the closet, grabbed two suitcases, and began packing my things. Once I was done, I changed my clothes and took my bags outside.

Luis would not come home for another two hours, and if I left now, he would not be able to catch me. I looked around at the house one last time when I finally walked out to my car to load my bags.

“Sweetie.” I turned around when I saw my mother standing behind me.

“Mom?” my voice trembled as I launched myself at her. “Please come with me,” I whispered when she pulled back and stared right into my eyes.

“I need to stay back, honey. If I come, there is a chance you might get caught,” she said as she wiped away the stray tears. “I can't see you suffer anymore, Emilia. And I hope you find a better life outside this pack.”

“I will miss you.”

“I will miss you too. But stay safe, okay?” she asked me, and I nodded my head as she placed a kiss on my forehead.

“You know I am doing this for your safety, right?” she asked me again, and I nodded my head.

“I love you, mom.”

“I love you too.”
