They stopped at the river that marked the border. Glowing trees lined the banks. A boat waited by the reeds. Before they boarded, Kevin turned away, shifted into wolf form, and asked for his robe.

Everleigh followed their gazes and froze. Alice and Lander emerged from the edge of the trees, their presence an unwelcome intrusion. Alice looked disheveled but determined, her sharp gaze scanning the crowd. Lander, however, seemed painfully out of place. His steps faltered slightly under the weight of countless hostile stares. The tension was palpable as wolves bristled at the sight of a male human in their sacred playground.

Alice brought Gardenia to her mother and the child immediately rushed to her mother. The night they came back, Gardenia was still doing her best to stay awake and wait for Alice and Karina. The child also bawled at seeing Alice alive. She went to her and Karina, embracing them with tears. It was the first time that Alice truly felt relieved that she had come back alive. She wasn’t expecting it to come from a child who’s basically a stranger.

She stood up to go when the voice of one of my warriors echoed at the back of my head. “Alpha, we have a problem.” He sounded panicked. “Are we under attack?” “No, Cassia has escaped.
