The Biker Alpha's Lost Mate
When I push myself up, breathing hard, the clearing is almost silent.
Bodies litter the ground, some human, some shifted back, blood dark against mud and stone. The river keeps rushing, indifferent, and smoke drifts low through the trees, stinging my eyes. A few distant shouts echo from farther back, but here, in this space, it is just us.
Alice stands a few feet away, chest rising and falling fast, fur matted and streaked red. She limps slightly on one hind leg, but she is upright, alert, eyes locked on me like she is making sure I am still real.
