I jump a little as I hear a sweet voice inside my head. "Hello, Skyler! Happy Birthday! My name is Alice, and I'm your wolf." I focus on her voice as I reply, "Hi Alice, it's nice to finally meet you. Shall we go and have a look at us in the lake?" "Yeah, that sounds great."

Alice's voice startles me. "Oh, nothing. I was just about to go back to work," I say quickly. "I see...Hey, I wanted to ask you something," Alice says, her eyes glinting with curiosity. "What is it?" I ask. I wonder if Alice saw me giving the girls potions. I trusted her but still...I don't want her to think I am a witch or something. "You get to be close to Alpha Xavier now, right? So what's he like?" she asks.

Alice ran straight into my arms when she saw me, wrapping herself around my neck with fierce enthusiasm. “You saw me, right?” she asked. “I saw you,” I said, lifting her easily. “Every second.” She giggled, then leaned back to look at me. “Where’s Lily?” The question landed softly. Too softly. I scanned the room again, my concern sharpening. “She probably stepped outside for a moment,” I said, choosing my words carefully. “She’ll be back.” Alice nodded, accepting the explanation without question. She chattered on about her costume and her friends and how the lights weren’t as scary as she’d thought. I listened, responded, smiled when appropriate—but my attention kept drifting.

Alice inquired, taking a few bites of the pancake and relishing the taste, not necessarily because he enjoyed it, but because eating from the same spoon as Alisha somehow made it taste more amazing. Throughout the week, Alice had kept a watchful eye on Alisha's orphanage through his assistant, hoping to glean some insight into her activities. However, he hadn't received any detailed reports since Alisha hadn't left or been seen outside the orphanage. Frustrated by the lack of information and feeling uncomfortable with the idea of surveilling Alisha, Alice had instructed his assistant to cease monitoring her activities. Before I could ask another question, Serenity lightly waved her hand dismissively. “But don’t stress yourself over details,” she said. “Enjoy the festivities while you can.” At that exact moment, Alice in wonderland’s loud, bright and innocent giggle rang through the yard. Both Demarion and I turned automatically toward the sound. Alice was running in circles with the other children, her tiny curls bouncing while she laughed so hard she could barely breathe. The sight instantly softened my heart, but when we turned back around again, Serenity was gone. Completely gone.

I open my mouth to brainstorm with Josh when the thrashing of branches catches my attention and everyone turns to stare at Todd and a few of the teenage boys that work with Kennedy on Saturdays. “ALPHA!, ALPHA! We got her…I mean I think it’s her. No one else could be that over the top.” Todd almost crashes into me. I grab him by the shoulders and blink a few times before asking him to repeat himself. “We found a trail…Uh…a trail of her…of her…Ummm, would it be okay if you let go of my shoulders? One Hundred and Four Freda’s POV I felt different, and I was certain I surely smelled nicer. I finally took my bath and changed into another dress. Ava also bathed and collected one of my dresses. Stephen performed another one of his magic hand tricks and prepared another delicious meal. We all sat on the couch and ate the meal to our satisfaction. After the meal, we sat around the table. The room was small, and we could all see each other very clearly. My heart beat in anticipation as I watched Stephen waiting for whatever task he was willing to assign to us.

Amy’s POV The clinking of cutlery against porcelain echoed through the dining room, but it all felt distant, like I was underwater, detached from everything around me. I sat at the table, staring blankly at my plate as the events of last night replayed in my mind. The party was supposed to be perfect, well, maybe it was. I had fun but I was worried about who the new guy was. He was going to throw me off balance."Amy, how was your party last night?" My mother’s voice pierced through my thoughts, pulling me back to the present.

I was surprised to see he was behind my kidnapping.
