Idly and briefly, she wondered if they doubled as knuckle-dusters, decided that she didn’t really want to know. “I’m Jo.”

Spears dipped low. "How dare King Dave step into my territory?" the king roared, his voice vibrating through the water. "Has he forgotten who owns this sea? Abel, Dove, Ruff— and you standing there behind Dove looking like an idiot, what's your name?" Everyone turned their heads slightly to see who the king was talking to. Silence fell, heavy and sharp. A man in his forties, malnourished with green eyes and red curls, scrambled forward and dropped to his knees three feet from the king. His voice was rough but familiar.

Everyone had one question: who killed him and why? ‘Friends!’, he cried again to attract attention. Everyone looked at him. ‘ I know, you don’t know me. Neither do you consider me as one of yours? But tonight a crime has been committed. Your king has been murdered.’ Again whispering arose. ‘ Who killed him?’, someone asked. -‘Where is Karseus?’, another one joined. -‘Why should we listen to whatever you have to say? Who are you?’, the third one put in.

All eyes turned toward the entrance where King Lucian Devereux emerged. His figure exuded regal majesty, commanding attention. His tall and powerful frame was draped in luxurious robes that shimmered in the twilight. The crown atop his head glinted with precious gems, but it was his face that drew a quiet gasp from my lips. King Lucian possessed a manly beauty that was both striking and captivating. His chiseled features, sharp jawline, and silvery gray eyes spoke of authority and grace.

Then, almost as one, they whooped. King was suddenly swarmed by three large guys determined to show their delight in the most overwhelmingly physical ways possible. Mac slapped his shoulder, Jax wrung his hand, and Aidan gave him an enthusiastic high-five. King smiled, a real smile, one that split his face in half.
