Papers flew off desks onto the floor, and the giant of a man who had just entered fought the raging storm to shut the door again. Dallas moved forward to greet him. “King.” Matt ‘King’ Kingston turned to face them now, his gray eyes hard. He nodded, unzipped his coat. “Dallas. Mark.” “Thanks for coming, especially in this weather,” Dallas said. “I’d never have asked if it wasn’t urgent.” “I know that, man.” King’s voice was deep, low. “That’s why I came.” “Coffee?” “You know it, Foreman. Black and strong.”

I folded my arms, trying to steady myself, heart hammering as his eyes flicked toward me just as the guard stepped back. “Ma’am, let’s go. The boss has arrived,” the guard said, calm but firm. My knees trembled as I lifted my gaze. “Who… who is he? Is he…?” I whispered, dread coiling tight in my chest, when suddenly his height felt strangely familiar. “Yes, ma’am. Mr. Evan Grant, our king,” the guard replied. WHAT! This is the evil I’ve been defying? Slowly, I turned toward the car he had stepped out of, the same black shade and model that had vanished into the darkness that night.

My hands trembled as I pressed my ear against the wood, trying to focus on the voices beyond it. This time, I could make out a few words, though they were still faint. I heard Taide’s voice first, sharp and defiant, followed by the steady, measured tone of King Auric. I stretched onto the tips of my toes, leaning toward the peephole. Through the tiny circle, I could see the three brothers standing before their father. The king stood with his back to me, dressed in the same white shirt and black slacks I’d seen him in earlier. His sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, exposing strong, pale forearms.

"I was just about to come looking for the four of you." Emma sighed in relief. "My apologies, Mother. It took a bit longer than expected," Theo calmly apologised," Where is Father?" Emma simply released a sigh before shaking her head with a smile,"A king will always be a king, Sweetheart. He's mingling with other royals and acquaintances. You know he can never sit without doing anything." Theo hummed and nodded in agreement before leaning down to press a kiss onto my cheek. "I better go amuse our guests." He sighed, clearly not pleased with the idea even as he gracefully dragged his body towards a group across the room."

The male agent watches his King from behind his mask with a smile of pride on his face. Atticus is truly meant for this role. He doesn't cling to grudges and he only needed mere moments to contemplate the effects of a war. He is truly a King.
