Jay said through clenched jaws. For the alpha I am not sure, I started, but for keilah, nothing will happen to her. Jay turned to me. What do you mean? He asked. I held up my wrist to show him a delicate thread tied around it. "She has the same around her wrist. It'll block any evil supernatural forces, like those vamps from reaching her.” It's the same thread that will guide us in and out unnoticed by the vampires. His eagerness to assist was palpable. "How can I help?" he asked, turning to me expectantly.

When the last thread dissolved, the woman collapsed into a chair, exhausted but smiling. "That was... almost pleasant," Carol said wonderingly. "Like slowly waking from a nightmare instead of being yanked awake." The council murmured among themselves. Elder James leaned forward. "Can you do multiple threads simultaneously?" Wendy moved to the next volunteer. This time, she grabbed five threads at once, pulling them in different directions. The mark unraveled faster, but still controlled. Ten minutes this time. By the fourth volunteer, she'd reduced it to five minutes. By the eighth, three minutes with minimal discomfort.

I said softly then moved my waist again. "FVCK!" he cursed as if his long-suffering patience had been cut. He parted my thigh wider and started thrusting slowly. I do not know how it happened that the previous pain I was feeling was replaced by a good feeling. "Ohh.. harder please.." I growled as I held both sides of my pillow. I was afraid to touch him because my nail might hurt him again. “Andrei.. more please..ohhh..faster.." I do not know where I will turn my head because of the pleasure he makes me feel.

A small, shaky smile touched my lips. “Then maybe your system needs an update.” The threads froze. All of them. For one single moment Everything stopped. The figures around me stilled. The space held its breath. Because something had changed. Something fundamental. “You are introducing a non-defined variable,” the system said slowly. “Yeah,” I said softly. “I am.” The threads began to shake. Not violently. But… uncertainly. Like they didn’t know how to react. Because this wasn’t part of the design.

The threads were still out there, invisible and hungry. But they had a system now. And Elion was starting to think that maybe, just maybe, they could see their way through the dark.

Silas said as we turned onto the mountain road. I rubbed my hands together, still cold even with the heater on. “Just thinking.” “About?” I hesitated, then shrugged. “That thread thing… my dad used to talk about it.” Silas glanced at me. “Thread?” “Yeah. Like… if you pull it too tight, it snaps instantly. If it's too loose, the whole fabric is useless.” I look out the window at the snow-laden pines rushing past us in the dark. “I don’t know. I’m just trying not to completely mess this up tonight.”

"He has been since the peak." The clearing was very still. "That is not possible," the third member said. "Four days ago self-stabilisation at ninety-one threads wasn't possible either," Renna said. "We're having a productive week."
