I threw my arms in the air in frustration, and he started to laugh. “You know that she meant nothing to me, right?” He looked a little worried for a moment and I nodded. “You shoved her away.” I sighed. “I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I’ve never been jealous, and I don’t want to be jealous now. I just can’t get her out of my mind, and it’s driving me insane.” I growled, climbing off his lap and he smiled and pulled me right back.

Pure jealousy. Maybe it shouldn’t but those words send a jolt of satisfaction through me. As fucked up as it may be, it feels nice to have the mean girls jealous of something I have. First time in my life anyone’s ever wanted anything I had other than money. Well, not something I have, I correct myself. Jealous of who they think I’m with. I’m still having to remind myself that this entire thing is a farce. I suck in a shaky breath and start scrolling with a determination to maybe accept the positive things and compliments that people are showering on me.

Alvin muttered under his breath, his voice low and bitter, each word laced with the heat of his jealousy. I stay behind, skating slow circles until the ice reflects the ceiling lights like water. The echo of last night won’t quit. Harper in that red dress. Harper laughing at Cole. The look she gave me when she said I was jealous. And the worst part? She wasn’t wrong. I stop at center ice, chest heaving, throat dry. Jealousy’s a rookie emotion. Sloppy. Weak. Not me. I don’t get jealous. I don’t do that. She’s not even my type.

“I have Alpha blood, Amara. I would have my own consorts, right?” Something disgusting crawls inside of me that had me blinking rapidly. It wasn’t quick like something that just passes, it wasn’t a fleeting emotion. It was big, and heavy, and whatever it was made me feel angry. I wasn’t stupid, I knew it was jealousy. Only jealousy would make you feel angry and insecure at the same time. It was one of those things that you couldn’t control but at the same time is one of those things that you can hide for so long until it eats you whole.

But my reflection doesn't listen. Because the truth is staring back at me. I'm jealous. Painfully, ridiculously jealous. And the worst part? I'm not sure how much longer I can pretend I'm not.
