As the groans intensified, my curiosity overpowered any fear that threatened to take hold. I watched in awe and disbelief as Christian's body underwent a profound transformation. His form blurred, and the air seemed to ripple around him. Bones cracked and realigned. The groans became more pronounced, resonating through the air like a primal chorus. Suddenly, Christian stood on all fours, his sleek silver fur glistened in the daylight. His eyes, now a vibrant amber, locked onto mine with an untamed intensity. The once familiar human features were replaced by the majestic presence of a large wolf.

The beings—if they can even be called that—are grotesque abominations that defy nature itself. One creature shambles forward on legs that don't match—one human, one distinctly canine, and a third that appears to belong to some kind of reptile, complete with scales and claws. Its torso is a patchwork of flesh, with what looks like bird wings grafting awkwardly from its shoulders, too small and malformed to provide flight but large enough to create an unsettling silhouette.

He began to tuck Jack’s things into a backpack. I barely got his shorts off when his body mass just tripled and tripled again. Finch pulled me back and I watched in complete amazement as his body morphed and moved, until he was something completely different. Certainly not a man. Barely thirty seconds later I was staring at the large dragon who stretched and rolled his head around just like a person would after a long nap. It was … adorable. I darted right for his belly.

Then it stepped back abruptly. I blinked as it moved a few feet away, its eyes still locked with mine. And then, right before my eyes, it began to shift. The fur along its body started to ripple, shrinking back into skin. Its snout retracted, bones cracking and reshaping with sharp, wet snaps. Limbs twisted, muscles reshuffling. It was both horrifying and mesmerizing, watching the creature morph from beast to man in a matter of seconds. One final crack of bone and he was standing on two feet.

Agony clawed at her, ripping through muscle and tearing at tendons. The men holding her flinched back, their faces contorted in a mixture of terror and morbid fascination as they witnessed the horrifying transformation. One of them fumbled, dropping his weapon and spilling its contents onto the damp earth. Her human form, once graceful and slender but now contorted and twisted, morphed into a magnificent beast. Her legs elongated, powerful muscles rippling beneath the newly formed hide. Razor-sharp claws extended from her fingertips, and her teeth sharpened into deadly points.

I had no spirit animal. I stood, half shifting, and letting my body morph into a larger size. Abner watches me with admiration, a twinkle in his eyes. I take pleasure when his expression turns to astonishment as I speak to him in my half-shifted state. “I can take the form of any cat, and change the color of my fur,” I speak while letting my fur shimmer from deep red to a light yellow with painted black spots.

They throw themselves at the wall like animals starved for centuries. Then it happens—one after another, they begin to shift. Not fully, but enough to become something more than human. Bones snap. Joints stretch and realign. Claws rip from fingertips. Eyes glow with feral gold. Their forms shift, distorting halfway between human and beast. Their bodies become weapons, sculpted from rage and muscle and pain. Damon’s voice drops into a guttural growl as his face contorts. Brooke’s arms bulk with wiry fur, muscles expanding, her body built for war. Ryan bares sharp, extended teeth, his snarl deep enough to make the ground vibrate.

Before we could intervene though Cormac rushes forward. A maddening roar rips from my bear to the surface as Erik bites into Cormac’s arm. In bear form, I am standing at the same height as Cormac. I step in front of him to stop him from advancing. Erik has the body of a large water dragon, and his face is a morphed version of his human form. I can tell by looking at him it is Erik, but maybe it is part of the Amory powers telling me who each animal is. He has scales ranging from deep purple to light blue covering his body, including massive wings. It is his eyes, though, that captivate me. They are Erik’s eyes and remind me this is a shifter and one I lead.

Christopher Jamieson was a god among men for playing Time at 5:30 am! He was pounding on the treadmill but this time he wasn't wearing his hoodie, just a t-shirt and sweat pants. She caught her breath and her steps faltered. She had never in her life seen such a specimen of a man. His body was sheer perfection! His back formed the most perfect V down to a narrow waist and a round butt that begged to be pinched. His arms were wire tight with ropes of muscles. His short-sleeved shirt allowed her to see that Christopher Jamieson was a ginger! He was covered in freckles…tons and tons of brown freckles over his pale skin.

“But I’m curious.” “I will be big, but I can promise you that I possess no danger to you. I’m a tame kitten on the inside.” I snort. “I doubt that.” He chuckles and steps away from me, and I watch as the transformation takes place. Alex’s body begins to stretch, and his muscles bulge out of his skin. His bones snap and reform into a new shape, and his fingers elongate into razor-sharp claws. His eyes take on a new, darker hue, and his canines grow into sharp fangs.
