He did not chain me. He did not restrict where I could go. That day, as usual, Fenrir left to hunt. The moment he was gone, I slipped out and headed for the fox clan’s territory. Kael, the fox shifter, looked stunned when he saw me appear at his door. “Human? What are you doing here? Didn’t Fenrir take you?” I pretended to trip and fell straight into his arms. Kael’s heartbeat instantly quickened. The tips of his ears turned red, and he did not dare meet my eyes.

I sat not speaking a word. “Do you know what I am?” He asked. I nodded, no. How was I supposed to know? I just found out vampires exist a few months ago when my life was taken from me. “I am a shapeshifter, a wolf shapeshifter” She confessed. My entire body was rigid. Shapeshifter? Its black limbs stilled slightly, eyes flickering with something faintly like recognition—or hope. Adonis stepped forward, aura flaring just enough to surround the shapeshifter in warmth, not force. “You’ve lost your handler. You’re confused. But you can choose. You can stay in this storm and risk everything… or you can let it go.” The storm seemed to hold its breath. Lightning struck nearby, illuminating the shapeshifter’s frame. It shivered, limbs collapsing inward for a moment, then extending again.
