Beside it, a leather-bound journal sat, its pages partially torn. “I didn’t know who else to call,” he began. “You’re the only person I trust now.” I didn’t speak. I only nodded, urging him to speak on. By now, I was restless, the air around us was tensed.

I yelled. Waters walked in and stared, "Shit, Lieutenant, you did it. Take everything." The safe contained about 50 audiotapes. On each of the tapes was attached a piece of paper that had a name on it. Three large manuals were in the safe. I opened one of them and it appeared to be a diary or log of activity. There were about 30 folders—some very thick and others with only had three or four pages. In some of the folders there were pictures—of naked men and women. The women were all extremely pretty, but the men ranged from muscular bodies with military type haircuts to old men with protruding stomachs and white hair. I patted the top of it first before unlocking and opening it. Many tape recordings, small pictures, and two pink notebooks that I made into a diary appeared to me. These are recordings from when Fritz and I were children and our grandparents were still with us. I used to save up just to buy tape recordings and diary notebooks. I intend to give them to Fritz. We both sat back down on the bed with our eyes glued to the book.

Cold. I pressed my hand over my mouth to muffle a cough from the thick air. Carefully stepping back, my heel hit something. A shelf. A loud thud hit the floor behind me. “Damn it…” I muttered under my breath, fumbling to pull out my phone. I turned on the flashlight and aimed it toward the object. It was a book. Old. Worn. A diary. I bent down and picked it up. The name on the first page stopped my breath cold.
