Alice POV “Dad, why didn’t you wake me up? I got late. My boss will kill me today.” I kept sulking and he kept on filling my breakfast plate. Today is my morning shift. Today is Sunday. But my law firm boss, Mr Miller called me. He wants me to draft a contract. “You were so tired last night and you were looking so peaceful while sleeping. And last thing. Today is Sunday, no one works on Sunday. .” He defended himself.

I checked my phone. One text. alive. I hope day 1 is okay. -A I stare at it. I stared at it for a long time. He remembered. He remembered on a Monday. He remembered on my first day back at work. He remembered at whatever time it was, which was twelve oh three p.m. on a Monday, which is the time a man who is in scrubs and who is on a long shift texts the woman he is dating to tell her she is alive, because he made a deal on a Saturday, in a kitchen, in sweatpants, that he would text her, and he is keeping the deal.

Evening settled softly over City as the employees gradually streamed out of the event company building after a long day of work. Pat walked alongside Tee and several other staff members, one hand tucked into his pocket while the others chatted indistinctly around him about project deadlines, food, and weekend plans.
