Raymond didn’t respond immediately. Because anticipation— Meant awareness ahead of action.

“To what?” I look up slowly. Fear coils in my chest. “To them.” The pull snaps tighter. Violent. Urgent. And for the first time since the scream, I feel something else beneath it. Anticipation. “They’re waiting,” I whisper. “And they’re not afraid.” The room holds its breath. So do I.
