I growl softly at the wolf. “You should leave,” I say trying to hold on to my temper.
The butler storms from my room, slamming the door shut behind him.
I sigh and bring Kaiya closer to me. She’s gone into apathy mode again, her favourite thing to do after she’s confronted with an ugly reality, locking out her emotions instead of dealing with them. "Kai-" I start, but she simply gets off my lap and takes her usual seat.
