I opened the cover and on the first page, there was a note stating how much mom loves me. It wasn't a book but notes, notes from Luna Aria. A wicked smile erupted on my lips when I figured out what was the purpose of the book.

I dragged my words. My dad took his time to answer me, his hands flipping through the green old book he’d given Caine and me a few days ago. “It’s about your mother,” he answered, stopping at a page and redirecting his gaze at me. “Mom? What…happened to my…to my mother,” I stuttered, fear filling up the holes in my heart. I could feel my eyes getting already. “Is she…is she,” I couldn’t say the words because I almost broke down.

I nodded my head, then put back the storybook that I had taken and left behind my mother's notebook. Moving closer to mama, I decided to lie on my stomach on the bed. I put the red-covered book next to mama and in front of me. My hand slowly opened the cover of the book and I saw several papers of various sizes stored there. Turning the page of the book again, the first note was found. The scratches on her hand were still there as if they were there forever.

I nervously stutter, “p-please, let me explain!” Uncrossing her arms, my mother bends down and reaches for the book. “Well, well. What do we have here?” A knot forms in my throat. “Hmm, it looks like you have been busy. Let me see that.” The tips of my mother’s fingers reach out for the book. In horror, I watch as the tattered book trembles and levitate off the floor. Her beautiful blue eyes become dark as coal. Aunt Victoria’s eyes bulge. Before I can question how or why, a deep growl expels from her chest, “Go, Katrina! Now!”

She would rather show actions than talk, and her customers have learned to relate to her that way too. “I was given this book by your mother, and she told me that you would need it someday, so I must not lose it no matter what,” she explained, opening the book filled with several symbols that were foreign to everybody. “My mother gave you this?” I asked in shock but she only shook her head “You are not the only one with a mother, you know. They also have mothers!” Her sharp voice sounded as she pointed to the two men standing beside me. “I know they all have mothers, but I am the only one you know, or am I missing something?”

The first pages of the book were typically a story of my mother's childhood, teenage life and all that, nothing worth reading. But as I went further, my eyes caught a text written in bold letters. “The one to mend the bridge between two worlds.” “What does that even mean?” I scoffed, reading further. After about ten minutes of glancing through each page aimlessly, I was fed up. “This is trash,” I muttered, closing the book. “Waste of my precious time,” I added, my face twisted in a frown. But just before I dropped the book, a little paper fell from it, landing on my thighs.

Talia’s POV “Talia?” my mother calls as she enters my room. “Yeah, Mom?” I nod and sit up straighter on the floor, quickly wiping my tears before she gets too close. She purses her lips, then walks over and lowers herself beside me. “I brought you something,” she says, handing me a small, worn book. “I thought it might help.” I take the book from her, and I immediately recognize it. It’s my grandmother’s recipe book, filled with old recipes, each one tied to a memory. I flip through the pages slowly, my fingers brushing over the familiar handwriting. “Thanks, Mom,” I say, holding it carefully.
