Panic Room
I leaned against the frame, counting to ten before my mother let out an audible huff, and her footsteps retreated back to her room.
I waited another minute, making sure she was gone back to bed, before I pushed off the door and curled into my bed, clicking on my bedside lamp and pulling out my sister's journal.
I studied the front of the book before my curiosity won over, and I flipped open the book. This journal was pretty new, the first dated page being just a few months ago. I read over the page, flipping it from one day to the next. Everything seemed pretty normal, from her days at work to the plans she had with her friends.
