Mates Deception
A soft creak echoed in the silence as I pushed it open and slipped through.
A dim light lit above, casting shadows across the room . My breath caught in my throat.
Weapons.
Knives, swords, axes—an entire arsenal covered the walls. Some gleamed under the dim light, sharp and deadly. Others were stained, their metal dulled by dried blood.
Above the weapons, mounted heads of animals stared down at me with their lifeless eyes. A deer. A lion. A bear. Each one a trophy of past hunts.
My gaze dropped to a small wooden desk in the corner. Papers were scattered across the surface, but one stood out—a certificate, old and slightly yellowed. My eyes scanned the words:
